I fail to see how making commendations more rewarding will motivate people to comm others. It would only motivate them to ASK for more comms, which is annoying already.
How about we reward players for GIVING commendations?

Because there is a reward for giving 5 commendations per week. And people would just randomly pick something to commend and leave quickly in order to max out points.
And this idea isn't to motivate people to comm others. It's to entice tanks/healers to do roulette (who already get the majority of the commendations given anyway). Further, I imagine many DPS would be enticed to comm others as a way of thanking them for letting their queue finally pop!
THIS
also, OP, i am fairly certain in pre-made parties, you cannot give commendations to party members
when i was helping my arcanist friend level up while on my tank, i could not choose him as an option for commedations
Indeed. I had forgotten about that. I shall go edit my post (I don't really use preformed parties).
They act have added more now there's a new robe you can get i think for 1500 and a new mount at 2000 i think
players are already awarded for giving commendations. they are given EXP and Gil. and even achievement rewards too. which IMO shouldn't be happening. the player shouldn't receive a damn thing for giving out a commendation. it completely undermines the value of such an action and system.
if the instanced dungeon went smoothly i give out commendations like so...
as healer they go to tank...
as tank they go to healer...
as damage they go to damage...
it is fair like that, in my opinion.
if the dungeon went less then smoothly. then i either commend no one. or commend a player that did something notable that may have changed the tide of any one encounter, even trash mobs.
