I use this controller and love it. Sure its "ancient" because it uses a cord but its more than long enough for my needs and its reliable. That and it was only $25, much cheaper than the other options mentioned.
...
Your about 5hrs too late, unfortunately :\
Barboron, thankyou for your time.. i spent hours trying everything to fix it.. I downloaded softwares for dead zones, already jigged around usb's because they are underpowered, i adjusted the sensitivity to different levels all the way to 100 and the camera still span.
I know its software side because both controllers are doing it but for the LIFE of me i just can't fix it.. i have tried everything! even in the controller setup screen it's registering an imput when the sticks move around in their sockets, the X and Y values never stay in the middle and as you know with the official xbox reciever there is no dead zone to configure.
Unfortunately i bought a new one and i really don't like it.. but i was literally trying to fix it from 6am in the morning to about 11am trying programs and reinstalling drivers etc etc..
If I can get them working again i will sell the logitech on ebay.. its a lesson learned.. but i couldnt fix it.

Since you are using a wireless controller, have you looked into what frequency it is broadcasting at and tried to change it? I don't know how to change is specifically for the 360 controllers but every "wireless " device will broadcast on a particular wavelength and if you have more than one device that communicates on that wavelength, they will conflict with one another. Best example of this is an RC Car, if you have something else broadcasting on the same frequency it will go haywire and drive on its own. Thie could be whats happening with your controller. Have you recently gotten any new devices that connect wirelessly?
no, just one morning i turned my pc on..
it couldnt detect my tv speakers and thought my controller was a speaker.. skype said "new speakers detected xbox 360 wireless controller, use this as default?" etc.
i rebooted.. then everything was normal.. except now my camera spins and on the calibration page in printers and devices it shows that its registers the slightest touch

This statement is 100% false.
Since re-launch I have gone through three, count them, three xbox 360 controllers. I am currently on my fourth. Two became useless due to thumbstick dead zones. I tried to take them apart, check them, clean them, to no avail. The third died because the cord (it was a wired controller) became faulty and eventually shorted out.
They are not excellent and they do not last. I play 2-6 hours a day and I notice that the xbox 360 controllers have a lifespan of about 6 months of rough play.
I've tried to baby my controllers and handle them as gently as possible, but they do just tend to wear out over time.
It's not just me, either, who has had issues with xbox 360 controllers breaking. 2 of my friends have gone through a few of them since re-launch as well. They can't take this game, it's too hardcore for them :3
Edit: having read some more of the posts I see that the issue is software related. I can't say I have much faith in the compatibility of MS's wireless controllers, hence why I use wired ones.
Have you tried changing the batteries? ;D

Is it possible your wireless receiver is faulty?
Do you live near others? Could someone nearby have recently gotten a new controller that is conflicting with yours in some way?
Maybe the government put in a wireless listening device and it is incompatible.
Or it could be aliens.
Do you have the ability to test the controllers on an xbox system to see if the problem can be duplicated there?
As you stated, you believe the issue to be software. The only fix is to reformat your whole PC!
(sorry I'm not more helpful ;D)
