Need Game Pad Help "Dead Zones"

So I have been playing this game since release with my xbox360 wireless controller, using the official xbox wireless reciever for PC.

It's been fine all this time.

All of a sudden this morning it has decided NOPE not gonna work anymore.

My camera constantly spins and it seems to be registering the stick as moving in its rest area, yknow, when its in the middle but can move like 1mm in either direction.

i've tried everything, i've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled, downloaded various softwares and i even tried a second xbox360 controller and got the same result.

I found in the config file "dead area" i tried increasing that and it didnt do much at all..

I don't want to have to buy a brand new pad for something that might be a very simple fix please help me.

Sounds like your controller died. Xbox controllers are clunky, heavy, awkward cheap pieces of filtercarb. Buy a PS3 controller, can probably find one used for cheap and use this set up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpSaOJJIun8

Edit: Oh an be sure to unblock the files, theres another vid that shows you how if you dont know how.

i personally use a ps4 controller, they're expensive but damn are they good.

But that doesn't help solve your particular issue. As Earendur said, it sounds like your stick's busted. But there's a couple things you can try.

    1. lower stick sensitivity ingame, (you may have to increase it, as for me the slider is reversed, but i assume that to just be because i'm using a ps4 controller and DS4Windows)

    2. Test the calibration of your controller, and see if it's detecting the stick as within the dead zone, if it's detecting movement when the stick is still, this is a sure sign that the stick is damaged.

thanks for the responses.. unfortunately i get the same problem with BOTH of my xbox360 controllers.. and i doubt they both spontaneously broke last night..

on the callibration it is registering the R toggle as moving but there are no options for dead zone with the official microsoft software

4 hours trying different things all come up with the same problem.. going to have to buy a new one T.T

the fact it recognised my controller as a headset this morning then flipped back to controller and thats when the problem started i'd assume it was a software malfunction but having uninstalled the software + drivers twice and reinstalling them and getting no result i just dont know what to do

Oh you can also try replacing the xinput9_1_0.dll file manually. I had that problem before on other games where the dll file got corrupted and the buttons where confused and mixed up.

I use this controller and love it. Sure its "ancient" because it uses a cord but its more than long enough for my needs and its reliable. That and it was only $25, much cheaper than the other options mentioned.

i just went out and bought the wireless version of this.. its really uncomfortable after using a 360 controller for so long.. but it works at least.. i just cant figure out what went wrong with my 360 controllers.. if one had done it, fine it was the toggle, but both did it and i dunno why.. theres no way they both broke over night with no input..

ahwell.. gotta get used to this over priced logitech piece of nonesense now

Lol, i guess its all about what you are used to. I personally hate the xbox controllers, i see no point/benefit to switching the analog/dpad like that and it was a boat of a controller, only outdone by the Dreamcast controllers. Hope you find something that works best for you since it is preference after all, good luck!

There is nothing wrong with your controller; Xbox 360 controllers are excellent and they seem to last. It looks like you have a USB device conflict: what else is plugged into the USB sockets? Try unplugging other things one at a time and see if that makes a difference. Try inserting the controller into a different socket. (I am using a wired Xbox 360 controller and I once had the same problem, but I can't remember which of those two solutions solved it.)

Ok, stop. Do not go and buy another controller. I had to read the post but I am asking to make sure, have you adjusted the in-game sensitivity?
Why people are suggesting new controllers first without asking this is silly. Even if you have >.>

I keep mine set at 55, it works well for me. I also use a wireless xbox360 controller with an official receiver. I used to use a clone receiver and that failed because it was cheap.
I also tried a PS3 controller. Personally, the "triggers" feel like I am pressing down marshmallows.

Also, I like logitech. If you can somehow manage to get your hands on a chillstream, I highly recommend them! They xbox one uses the xbox drivers, also the sticks, to me, are MUCH nicer. I'm not talking a slight difference, it was definitely noticeable. The sticks had little play compared to my Xbox controllers and had a firmer move, took more effort but in a good way. Felt more secure.

360 controllers I find are still pretty good, either way. You asked about fixing your controller, not recommendations on a new one.
