Could this be the beginning of the end for the epidemic of people who don't actually play the game trolling everyone's threads? How many frequent posters is this going to impact?

After the maintenance, following requirements must be fulfilled to log in to the forums.

• Possess Square Enix account with an active service account on FINAL FANTASY XIV
• Have logged in to FINAL FANTASY XIV in the last 30 days (additional requirement)

I doubt this will stop that many trolls. People said the same thing when they added character accounts to the forums. That didn't stop giftforce/gifthorse from annoying us, until they banned him.

Won't stop anyone, they can just log in once a month so they can troll harder. Until we get charged, this means nothing.

As long as the game is still subscription free, how does this make any difference?

There are still hundreds of thousands of sales that hate the game and while they don't play anymore, it only takes but a moment to log in and get access to the forums. And its pretty dern clear that the trolls and haters will go to great lengths to spread their disgust.

Until XIV goes P2P, then this won't really solve anything for long. At least SE are trying to do something better.

The hope is that the extra effort required to keep an active forum account will deter trolls from posting on the forum.
