Now, I've never really had a problem playing video games on my pc, it's fairly new, and up until this point has been able to handle almost everything it plays on the highest graphic setting. NOW, the issue i'm having is that I can barely play ffxiv even on the lowest settings, without lagging. This only seems to happen more profoundly on fullscreen mode, when in windowed i can get away with playing on high-ish settings.

Anyone have a clue as to why this may be happening?
I really want to playyy xD

Id say you need more ram to run it on fullscreen with 1680*1050, at least worked for me, i got about the same specs, but upgraded ram yesterdsay, now it goes like a dream got 24 gig ^^

Ok, I checked your system out. You should probly run the official benchmark to see your score, video wise. Your computer's video card looks to be outdated, the recomended minimum is a GTX 460, And your a generation lower, another thing to consider is your monitor resolution, a lower resolution monitor requires less video proccessing, meaning your window'd mode most likely is a lower resolution your card can handle better, If your looking for improved performance, make sure ambient occulsion depth of field are disabled, they really eat up even the latest video cards and your card cannot handle the extra proccessing. also, you can get away with lowering the background draw distance to increase playability. I also recommend you turn shadows down to medium as this game has alot of them. I will also say once more, Ambient occulsion and Depth of Field will kill your card... atleast make sure these are unselected. lower your background draw and shadows and you should be able to get away with the other settings on high. if you want high settings on this game you need a new card. I hope this helps

download run and compare your score to the chart at the bottom of the site

I doubt your video card is the same. plus 24 gigs or ram is outside of Home Premium enviroment, You would have to be running a server motherboard with a OS that supports the 24 Gigs

My bad let me retract my statement, Home Premium supports up to 16 Gigs, so 24 gigs would be needed for ultimate or enterprise or proffessional, and would likely be on a motherboard of a server

Also as a side note, the Hexacore i7 extreme editions were out benchmarked by the Sandy Bridge quad core intel released, that Sells for way cheaper. Unless your doing mathmatical number crunching a hexacore is not what you need for gaming. Get the Sandy Bridge quad core for $300, and save $700 on something you dont need

Your problem is the graphics card, the GT 320 is below the minimum requirements.

As has been suggested, when you are running in windowed mode, you are most likely also running at a smaller resolution than your monitor, thus lessening the work the card have to do per frame.

You might want to check the Nvidia control pannel. It overrides any settings you make for the game and that might be pulling more than you can handle. With 24g of ram and that 300 serie (which is after the 9000 one) your machine shoudn't have a problem running this.

Ok I was going to say this card may not play it but after reviewing the stats and comparing them to my stats (GPU only) you should at LEAST be able to play this game on medium settings. I'm using a GT 9600 which is lower then your card and I have no problems running the game on 1920x1080 in the FFXIV Config with no AA, 8 General drawing, 3 background, lowest Shadow, DoF on, Ambient OFF, Texture qual and filtering High. Sometimes in Ul'Dah it can get a little slow on rendering the NPCs or PCs but otherwise, I have no issues.

    Edit: Added this for reference

Just because the GT 320 is a "newer" card, does not automatically make it faster.
In fact, it is slower than your old GT 9600.
