Legacy Type movement setting for controller users question

I know this has been brought up before about auto attack based jobs missing out on dps using this setting because of lack of strafing and the general reply and answers are "learn to use target lock". However earlier today i found a Japanese player on twitch.tv doing final coil who was using a controller with Legacy Type movement settings yet clearly strafing without target lock ? I'll link the past broadcast so you can see for yourself but it has left me very confused and would like to know if anyone has the answer to how this is possible cause im sure it's helpful information for anyone using this setting with a controller. WARNING! the link contains spoilers for final coil and takes place in turn 13 the last turn so dont click if your worried bout that stuff.

^keep in mind that this footage is a rebroadcast on twitch.tv and will be removed in 15days or so. Check other rebroadcasts for gameplay if deleted.

I believe a simple fix for this issue could be a tweak to the character config settings->control settings->target settings-> "Automatically face target when using action." When applied this only faces your target if the skill has NOT been used. Once you use an action and you press any skill or the next in your combo you will not face the target if it's on cooldown. If square-enix were to simply change this so if a player is pressing or mashing a skill regardless of being used or on cooldown you will keep facing your target.

Can't view because it is blocked at work, but if they are on PC it is quite trivial to map controller input to keyboard keys. If you can strafe using keyboard keys normally, then this could be what they've done; changed left/right on the left stick to the strafe keyboard keys instead of moving right or left, for example.

I don't think you can map keyboard functions (strafe) to controller buttons (especially not the analog sticks). You can do the reverse, map controller functions to keyboard keys. So it's possible to use a cross hotbar control scheme from your keyboard, with keyboard movement instead of analog stick movement.

It's possible he was using a gamepad for everything else, but strafing via the keyboard, too, though I think that'd be uncomfortable at best (hit strafe keys with your pinky I guess?).

Edit: Or, perhaps, a gamepad with extra buttons that he could reassign to keyboard keys through the hardware driver instead of in game? Don't know how feasible that is.

Regardless, yes, I wish the face target on skill use would work whether the skill was on CD or not.

Yes this player is on PC and that just may be what is happening here and possibly using a gamepad with extra buttons or has his left and right d-pad mapped with strafe keys which would be neat (i never use the d-pad targeting lol just use the shoulder buttons). I wish i could communicate better with the streamer to really understand how he's pulling it off but he's Japanese heh. I wonder if this is a common thing for the Japanese gamepad players to do, i definitely found it interesting and noticed it right away when i first tuned in :P.

A person replying to my other post on reddit linked this -> http://jp.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...7/blog/920399/
So pretty sure that monk is doing somethan similar to this, i still wish for a tweak to the Face target when using action setting especially for players restricted to ps3/ps4 who dont have the option to enable this pretty cool fix.

Open your character config and you'll see the two options, Standard or Legacy controls.

    Standard controls FTW

Standard when in fight, legacy when not.

    But to each their own.

If you are referring to the little Lalafell running around in what appears to be a strafing motion, that was the character named "Wato Fariy."

The player who's computer we are watching this video from is NOT Wato Fariy. Rather it is Waka Sama, who is the individual whose name is at the very top of the party list. And that individual is not clearly visible at the start of the video due to being hidden by the C-Waymark. However they are standing still right in front of the parties paladin's sword. Additionally this character has it set up so that when they aren't in combat their character name is not visible, so you can't see them as clearly as all the other characters. However they are NOT strafing in the very beginning of the video.

Additionally once the fight actually BEGINS, I really don't see Waka Sama doing anything all that unusual for someone using the Legacy Type Movement. It all looks practically identical to how I move when I am on my Monk, Dragoon, or Ninja while engaged with an enemy in a dungeon or raid.

Hey Tharian the person who we were discussing is the streamers point of view the monk, if you really pay close attention especially to his leg movements and facing you can see he is indeed strafing like a player on mouse/keyboard legacy settings. If you try to replicate this without the changes he has made when you press left and right on the analog stick your player faces that direction even for just as split second while moving this guy clearly does not and is facing the boss/adds. If anyone has any debate over whether this is even Legacy settings fast forward to 2:46:56 where you can clearly get a shot of him turning his camera towards his party without his character facing them which is not possible on standard controls (I tuned in late so i got a good look at many moments where i spotted it). Your the 1st to suggest that he's not strafing though heh i have had to prove that he isnt on Standard settings before because other people noticed the strafing but not the Legacy stuff.

I found the solution to the problem. Or at least the most readily obvious solution. The player in question is using Standard Type Movement. And has a mouse hooked up to their computer (obviously) for when they want to use those weird camera angles.

That is what accomplished what he did for me anyways. Granted I saw a mouse cursor when I did it, but that is aside from the point.
