And yes, I used the edit workaround to post this... it needed to be done!
This is just a list of a few things that I have been thinking about and would like to see some tweaks to... here goes.
Fishing~~ Lets face it, fishing is FAR too random. I would like to see a more controlled aspect to fishing. Perhaps implement a system where a certain location plus a certain bait used on a certain rod would ONLY yield a certain fish. Yes, it would be more to carry (basically rods only), but it would let us find what we are after.
Duty Roulettes~~ I would like to see increased rewards for tanks/healers for duty roulettes in an effort to promote faster queue times. I feel the "adventurer in need" bonus is not sufficient to inspire people to play those classes more often.
In game mail~~ I would like to see an option allowing us to send mail to FC members as well. Include an option allowing us to sort by friends or FC members as well, and you have a much improved mail system. (not sure why this is not already a thing)
Quest turn in icons on minimap~~ In places like Limsa, where there are mulitple layers in the same zone, it is easy to be on top of the turn in icon, but not see the NPC. Adding an arrow to the icon, green pointing up, and red pointing down to indicate the turn in's respective elevation compared to your char would be handy. (honestly not the biggest concer, but handy)
RMT Spammers~~You know, it is NOT the fact that reporting the RMT players takes time away from my game that bothers me. It is not even the obsurdly difficult method and steps that must be taken in order to report these people that bothers me. What bothers me is that, as you said, you can ban one, and another is created. There is NO way to stop people from just making another account and continuing the cycle... unless you start making it harder for them do it! Granted, making it harder, will only slow them down, but it WILL produce measurable positive results on the volume of RMT spam.
What are these methods to which I am referring? Well, you can start by not just investigating the accounts for RMT activity. You can, and should also be investigating the IPs associated with those accounts. For every account you investigate, you should also be flagging that IP. If that IP is found to have a history of RMT abuses, you can not just ban the accounts, but ban the IP and all accounts connected with said IP. Now, this has already been mentioned by myself and I was told that while this method would have a greater success rate at lowering the RMT spam, but it might adversely afffect legit players. To that, all I can say is this. You can not be afraid to take action to protect the things that you love. If SE loves this game, and wants to see it do well, you have to be willing to break a few eggs. If all a RMT spammer has to do is have 1 legit account on the same IP as the other 100 spam accounts, and th ey never get banned.... then they will abuse this loophole and you will NEVER get ahead of them.
My suggestions for slowing the RMT spread?
First, when you get a confirmed RMT abuse, you record the IP it connects with.
Second, you BAN the account that had confirmed RMT activity.
Third, you send a warning message to all accounts associated with said IP, informing said accounts that RMT activity has been detected on that IP and what will happen if it does not stop.
Fourth, if the RMT activity continues, you issue a temporary ban to all accounts on said IP.
Fifth, if RMT activity has not ceased, you ban the IP and any associated accounts (regardless of RMT activity on the accounts associated with said IP).
Sixth, If a legit account is banned, said owner can file a dispute and ban reversal request.
Seventh, IF reversal is granted, they are can be reinstated on probation during which if any RMT activity resumes, the IP and all accounts recieve a permanent ban.
These are simple steps that can be taken. Yes, they can get a new IP and start over, but at that point, you are not just banning the accounts that are confirmed spammers, you are banning the ones that no one reports. Lets face it, you want me to send you the name of the spammer, and a copy of their message? This would take forever! If you actually started doing something that would have ANY measurable positive outcome, I might be more inclined to report more people.
Conversely, you can also implement a few privacy options to the whispers.. "friends only", "FC only", and "FC & Friends only" are all viable options. This would allow us to NOT live with /busy on all the time.
This CAN be fixed, but as stated before, you (SE) must be willing to take drastic measures to fix it. Asking them nicely and smacking them on the hand (banning an account) will not stop them or slow them down. Meanwhile, you can, will, and probably have lost players to the constant RMT spam.
You want a great game? EARN IT!
