Being told to just give up on something when you are one point away must be immensely frustrating. Especially when he has absolutely no control over it. I can understand needing lots of money for a relic but unlike Relics in XI, the money spent wasn't "gambled" away. You had to buy or farm X so much currency items back then and once you had them That was it! No gambling! You just turned em in. However I can see how XIV's relic can make anyone bonkers. Firstly you have no control over the cost of the materia's should you decide to buy them, then you have no control over whether or not you succeed or fail the meld. To be honest, I believe that in this case for Novus relics there should be 0 chance of failure, and I personally dont think that's too much to ask for. And if SE did ever change the way Relics were materia'd to reflect this, I wouldnt be angry even though I have already completed mine. I'd be happy for all the folks after me that dont have to go through that hell. Not to mention, impeding progress just for ego/selfishness is kind of retarded.

I mean take coil for example. Tons of people are butt hurt about that, but they still eased the content. Materia's for Novus should be no different.

Unless you are on the cutting edge of progression (which I know you are not), one point of DET, SS or Crit will not matter (Acc can, but it can regardless of what "tier" you belong to). The gain from a single point is almost non-existent; you have to stack certain amounts to really see an effect.

Planning ahead and melding Acc to your weapon, 5, 10, 15, even 20 points, not only saves the headache of the player-set materia prices, but allows more flexibility in gear choices which could be more beneficial overall.

I'm an FCoB WAR; my Bravura Nexus has 20 Acc, 25 DET and 31 Crit on it. No one in my static has ever wished I melded my Novus axe "properly" with 31 DET and 44 Crit; that slight bit of DPS I'd gain (possibly; have to make up the lost acc from somewhere else, which could lose me DPS from that switch) isn't going to make or break our raid.

If I had 15.5 Million gil (Which, I've never even had 500,000 Gil at one time, ever) I'd buy a house, or continue saving for a small house, that way I could cross-breed thav onions and then make a fortune (Doing so only needs up to level 30-45 Gathering classes or so. Cross-breeding from the base seeds/etc.)

The problem is that you sort of get pulled into them through the A Relic Reborn quest. Going from regular relic to +1/Zenith was reasonable. Post-nerf Atma has become somewhat reasonable. Novus inherited the "whoa that's a lot of wasted time/resources" crown formerly worn by Atma. Then came nexus which was somewhat reasonable. Hammering down the unreasonable stuff to a reasonable level would do a lot to help relics.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

I gave up on the last 2 crit slots for my bow after losing 3 crit IVs and that was with gear I SBed myself. Then split the remaining points I had between skillspeed and accuracy just to be safe on both(in case they ever make skillspeed a thing beyond ups too much of it your TP is gone).

I'm working on a second novus for my whm but that's still in the animus book phase(just because I want to I have the sol weapon and it's perfectly servicable).

This is why I don't meld stuff. Rather wait out a few extra weeks to beat coil then be one of the first on server lol

3: Spiritbond your own gear, if you got gather/crafting classes its gonna cost you nothing but time.
    All of this.

I actually like the changes and I know some others do too. It's quite effective to the spiritbound rate for higherilvl items now, depending on the content. So spiritbond rate is increased which means more chances at getting materia. You, like many others, are being hit with supply and demand once again.

You got that right considering it cost me over 40 million to finish my weapon

I don't know how it is in your server, but here the change to SB did nothing to materia IV and materia III became worthless, as now people sb sets like 30% faster in content relevant to the gear level. When I did my second novus I had to pay more for materia II than materia III, while materia IV was already expensive before that patch.

The change to SB was definitely good.
