I too grew up in 2D, and agree with you about there being way to much sex in games, It is why I look at games like Blade&Soul or Terra, and just sigh and walk off. But since these bathing suits are pretty much the only fully reveling cloths in the game, it does not really bother me.We all like sex appeal, but we dont want it everywhere. Its hard to turn around without it in this world and some people play to get away from the world.
I dont want a game full of it, thats what other companys do and and I dont enjoy playing those games. I dont mean to sound like a wet noodle, but ive always enjoyed my Final Fantasy with minimal sex appeal. The story and game play at the front line. Not trying to say SE is lacking in that aspect because I have enjoyed much of the story, cant say much of the gameplay since they keep changing things around so much you cant really get use to anything.
Its hard to tell what any of you actually mean with your posts. But some us are old, and we came from 2d games where sex appeal was finding an item called a "Porno Mag" that had no purpose except to tease, but that sounds exactly like what these are.
Now that we are in the generation of fantastic graphics its going to be hard to unastablish ourselves from the potential with the appeal. Even though this gear has no value other than to trick your hormonal sences into action, I am sure we will see people flaunting them for years to come.
I cant help to find them absurd. I dont play XIV to see sex appeal. Though it is good to please all kinds of players. And, events are fun! this one made you go all around the world, aposed to sitting in town waiting for a bell. SE is progressing this game. In time we will have a plethera of activities to take part in. Frankly, im excited for a Halloween event.
The only thing I want to really poke at is, the event items dont seem to hold any purpose accept for nastolgia. In XI, a lot of it was put to good use for many many years. The only event item I have used in XIV was the Samurai Bunny Hat because it had good Control for a low rank helmet.
Back on topic. People who disliked the bikini's just needed to let off steam. If it was a game breaker, they are no longer with us. I personally think that these are not bikinis either. They are more of small pieces of cloth with strings. Don't seem like they will stay on very well swimming around. And, because of that statement alone, people said they are only for appeal. Well theres no point in argueing. Everyone has an opinion.
It is true that games have done worse than this, but if you are saying this isnt enough, then what are you asking for? A game to get together with friends, gear up, rank up kill angry monsters and collect fabulous armor? or A game where you sit around in town and stare at your screen because you fell in love with your toon?
Ask yourself, what are you looking for. An adventure or a porno?
Adventure of course, but you should know that this game isnt limited to only those options. Like Aion said, "Both!"It is true that games have done worse than this, but if you are saying this isnt enough, then what are you asking for? It doesnt always have to be about killing monsters, but acquiring armor and mixing and matching fashion is what people like to do as well. Some people care about what their character looks like rather than the stats they have, and those people usually are the ones that end up having the most fun, because more than likely they are doing this with friends.
The Summer Event is just content that is considered to fall under the "Acquiring Armor" category, with a little bit of adventure and killing monsters.
I don't think it's too much. Was just a silly/fun event. I do see some cleavage on the bottom halfs of some suits though, including mine, and I'd rather not really. Note that there's a difference between preferring a regular bikini and demanding a return to full bodied dresses as swim-wear though (which some of you, hopefully not seriously, seem to have suggested is what the default opinion of complainers is). You should also probably note that lots of girls, even in 2011, still do prefer to wear one-piece suits.
Anyways. I'm not too bothered by this. I had lots of fun doing the event, and the suit isn't quite past the point of being scandalous to me. It's quite wearable on my character really, even if I wouldn't wear it myself. I don't see why anyone would feel compelled to ask for SE to take it further though, and I'd personally not want them to. To answer the original question about whether SE would take it further, I can't imagine they would. You can't get people too naked in a game that's meant to be sold to all ages in all countries.
Lastly, to the people who "don't understand why anyone could be upset" (although I think annoyed is probably a better word than seriously upset). It's fine if you don't understand it, there's no reason at all you have to or should feel the same way. But just remember that they're/we're entitled to our own opinions as well.
