    Sounds like you didn't find enough friends to ride the treadmill with. I'm not surprised you aren't having a good time. You keep expecting the game to hand you the whole experience when the people are half of it. Having a horizontal progression system wouldn't change anything about that.

    Probably should have done some research. I read a few articles before beta where Yoshi specifically said they were using a WoW model. It's not like this info was hidden or hard to find.
