It seems crazy to me how tab targeting works in this game. In basically every other MMO every created, when you tab to target an enemy, the closest enemy in front of you is highlighted first. This is quite literally the industry standard, the most intuitive, what everyone wants to happen. It feels alien to go play (far older) MMOs that do this right, then come back to FFXIV and see it done... differently.

I understand there is a keybind to "target closest enemy", but this should be an unnecessary step. As soon as I start tabbing, it should cycle through the closest first, because honestly, wouldn't I want to target the closest thing first!?

Personally, I put "cycle to target on the left" and "cycle to the target on the right" on my mouse wheel (you can press the mouse wheel itself left or right). I literally hated trying to target anything before I did this. And it's still pretty annoying because, for example, maybe I want to target this Dark Matter Cluster here in Turn 6. Well, no, it's apparently time to cycle through that pack of Lunar Golems (no, I don't actually make this mistake, but it shouldn't really be a mistake able to be made to begin with - I'm near this cluster because I intend to kill it, not because I want to fight golems).

I shouldn't need to press YET ANOTHER BUTTON in order to target the closest thing, and THEN tab from there if I want. It's... just not good design. Why does this game do it differently? No one seems to want it. Please address.
