Lv50 creature in lower level area?

Don't know if anyones noticed this, but I sometimes see my character go past a creature (or beast) of Lv50, twice in Western La Noscea (something with a helmet on) and once (I think) in Western Thanalan (a bird creature), in the past month.

Whats going on?

I'd leave it alone until you're geared at 50 unless you have help.

The stat difference between 48-49 and 50 is pretty vast.

You can try but you won't get credit for it unless you're lvl 50 and at a certain GC rank where you unlock the quest to do those hunts. The rewards are Allied seals, soldiery tomes(i think) and some gil.

You'll get credit. I do it all the time, ( well if I happen to come across one in my travels) and I still haven't unlocked the hunts, its there but its red because of my GC rank. You get nothing for a B rank, but the other elites you do. Even have unlocked some of the achievements.

These are hunts, and there placement on the map is sometimes more than questionable. I've seen a rank A hunt spawn directly on top of a level 30ish story mission start point, the choice of placement for these is problematic since they seem to be completely random spawn points.

Not entirely true. If it has a blue indicator it wont attack, but if it is red it will kill on sight. Most B rank hunts are blue but alot of the A rank and S rank tend to be red and will eat your soul if you aren't paying attention.

Heh. This reminds me a story I had a week or two ago.

Was playing FFXI and had to complete a mission for my lvl 50 BLM. I had to go through Ranguemont Pass which had a bunch of lvl 90's dumped in it according to my friend since Abyssea dropped (for leveling)... great, well sneak + prism powder did well for that. Finally get to Fei'yin and slowly battle my way to the location I need to be. One room before I can get to the thing I had to activate, I find a NM. I ask my FC mate on mumble if he heard of it... nope. I look online, lvl 80 NM... ooooooh no. It then moves up to me, aggros, and one shots me as I run for dear life. Had a laugh and tried an alternate route after getting back.

This is a fairly common story from FFXI. Most people I've met have a similar tale. lol

They loved putting quests in zones that were WAY higher level than you were when you got the quests...
