Cuz using a potion that can't even heal a basic attack is like :| i remember potions being useful in almost every ff game till now lol.
Sad part about this would be that they become spammable, people rely on it too much, the price will steeply rising, and then the one who has more money will be tankier.. Name it "pay to win" -> gil buyer.. I'd say the cooldown is fine the way they are, about 1-2mins, but the potency really needs to give descent healing at later stage, not only in low level..

It has been quite a while but if i recall correctly WoW had a lot of useful potions, and more fun potions. SE could take a note from them on that, or at least my memory of it.... lol

You could tell a real alchemist by the hilarity of their bar, though higher level stat potions stopped stacking, also there were a number of very neat potions just for fun like one that turned you into a dragon and then your friend could ride you as you flew around.

Diablo 3's potion system (since Diablo 1/2 was mentioned) is a bit more like ARR with cooldowns, but still more useful. I suppose the big thing is if SE wants to make potions feel like a necessity or not. Talking about that I think phoenix downs are a bit lame in this game, if they remove the battle restriction they'd be pretty awesome, but again.. may become something people are expected to have (also may turn some fights easier as you have more room for failure). So.. you win some and lose some I guess. Personally would like to see more flare to the potions, but I could see arguments on why not.

IMO SE may change the animation from drink a potion. Take long time to do.

People rarely use potions because they can rarely use potions. The cooldowns are horrendous for even the weakest of potions, and even the strongest ones only restore a tiny amount of HP, barely enough to recover from a single strike. Ethers are a bit more useful, but again only slightly. 450 mp is only really good in absolute emergency situations, since at best you'd only get two cures out of it, and one being tier 1 at that.

It's got nothing to do with 'maxing' your output. DPS are built to do what DPS do best, hit things. They can use skill heals which are far superior to potions (Second Wind, Physick etc), cost nothing to use and have shorter cooldowns, effectively making potions a redundant extra. If you can tell me how these jobs benefit from a weak 450hp heal every 5 minutes when they should be receiving cures from their healer anyway, I'll happily concede.

I take more issue with being unable to craft Cordial/SpiritbondPotion/DurabilityDraught than I do with the use of current potions. An additional self heal or MP boost is useful. Niche, but useful. As are the stat potions and poisons (well, not really the later).

I randomly got one of the latter in Walk of the Echoes... I was champing up the subsequent fight with insane damage, crazy regen and 9999 hitpoints.

    ...ahh nostalgia.
ew you havent done Legion in FFXI, Vile Elixirs were a must have for mages basicly there. It still is usefull, but to a lesser extent now, due to the amount of refresh available.

I remember that whenever i play ff games i'd always bring stacks of potions that i could use to spam etc.
    Technically in any game lol
But this was the 1st time potions felt so underwhelming lol.

Also wouldn't that be a good thing if prices went up cuz potions are easy to make and hq?
I mean potions aren't 4 star mastercrafts right?

The X-potions are 3 star mastercrafts. The idea is to not build the game around a dependence of potions. If they were TOO good then you would be gimping yourself for not bringing any with you. It is what it is really.

X-potions of X stat are 2 star not 3. They are very easy to hq even with the level 55 tool.
