I am sure that even though they seem to just be discussing the various topics. If you really know the way Japanese people are, they are actually yelling out their frustration, they just do it in less words![]()

What i got from the OP is that the Japanese(or people that can read the Japanese) are more so on that forum compared to the english ones but either way about the same is being said regardless.

Considering how kanji works, they might be doing it in many more words than you think
I will always envy the possibility to write long, complex sentences in Japanese, and make them fit the 140 characters on Twitter![]()
Speaking of 2chan, most of the FF14 population are probably more on 2chan then FF14 forums. Ah the power and craziness of 2chan.And you know that without knowing how to read Japanese? My, the marvels of the internets...
A little piece of advice for the ones idealizing the Japanese internet behavioir. Spend a few hours on 2chan.
(mind you, I love Japan, I have quite a few Japanese friends, but I know the Japanese internets enough to know that they have their flaws and quirks. Plenty).
I agree that it's hard to use absolute numbers when you don't have percentages; but what I find most interesting is what topics they're discussing. Thanks for the info!

Agreed X 10milThis information is correct as of 10/03/2011.
Someone asked me yesterday why I spend more time reading the Japanese forums than the English ones. In order to explain, here's the view count of the forum stickies (The thread topics are identical):
Sticky: Welcome to Forum: General Discussion!
* Views: 412
Sticky: フォーラム:ジェネラルディスカッションについて
* Views: 2,058
Sticky Thread Sticky: Welcome to the official FINAL FANTASY XIV forums!
* Views: 3,643
Sticky Thread Sticky: ファイナルファンタジーXIV フォーラムにようこそ!
* Views: 10,678
Now let's take a look at the top five forum threads by viewcount in the Japanese and English forums:

The inference I make from this is that although the forum threads topics might be equally silly or inflammatory, Japanese people are more prone to actually reading stuff (like you know, the stickies, existing threads and forum guidelines) and less interested in listening to the beautiful sound of their own opinions.
Not really.
Browsing some quick topics there isn't much of a difference between what's being talked about, and the tones.
Take these two topics on jumping in the General forum:
Japanese:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...81%84%E3%81%A6
English
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...highlight=jump
The OP's for both topics state their case.
The Japanese one suggests the cost of adding jumping to current game mechanics might be too costly in development, so why not add jumping to chocobos instead.
The english one suggests jumping around is a little obnoxious, but the merits for having jumping in certain locations is ok, thus why not do a FFXIII style jump mechanism where you go to a specific spot to trigger a "jump".
A smattering of responses for both:
Japanese (translated):
"Don't want jumping. I don't want to jump around meaninglessly like an idiot in WoW where you hit [space][space][space]."
"I don't want a "jump" feature.
I would however like a [Climb] function."
"Don't need jumping: agree.
More over, why are we suddenly even talking about jumping??
There's way more things that need to be dealt with...
Like adding a map that actually makes you want to jump"
English:
"Jumping is retarded, they shouldn't let Galkas jump...EVER, unless we want the raptors to go extinct."
"YES we DO NOT want jump in FFXIV!
Please Yoshi-P DON'T DO IT!"
"My forehead is bright red from all the face palms I have been doing from reading all these posts. You guys are freaking out over such a harmless feature. Why don't you worry about the more serious problems with this broken game instead of going nuts about something as harmless as jumping."
Japanese is a more "gentile" language than English is, so it's a lot easier to spot someone trying to be harsh. But overall, meh, there are people being douchey on both sides, but there are a lot of good discussions going on too.
