Iwao or Yoshida said the event was based on a Japanese festival if you look in one of Reinhart's translation threads.

In regards to the music, it isn't bad, it's easy to whistle along to it, but I liked the FFXI summer music better, if only for the moogles.

And as for you, Azury...

The music is temporary, and you can turn it off if you don't like it.

This event is great. It's obvious the developers has a lot of fun designing it.

A real mariachi band sounds so much better. Like, if people haven't seen the mariachi band playing for the beluga whale clip, they should check that out. The band is average, or at least in that short clip they don't play anything difficult, but their instruments are real of course and it sounds so much better.

But eh I'm used to playing the game without music or with my own music so whatever. There's no accounting for taste after all. It's hardly an issue for the game beyond the initial 'Waaaaaah???' reaction.

If anything though I thought the 'hater thread' would be about the mankinis or whatever they are called. I mean that is just stupefying to me. What kind of man wears a mankini top??? The kind that calls their fellow mankini wearers 'girlfriend' and 'honey' that's who. I mean they managed to find something even less manly than tying a t-shirt knot.

If some guy wants to dress like a woman, I have no problem with them being happy doing that as it is there life, but for the mankini top to be the standard option is mind boggling to me. I mean come on, where are the head dresses with fruit for the mankini top boys?

Seriously, is this one of those unexplainable Japanese things? Do guys who are not transvestites and/or gay guys really wear stuff like that in Japan?

When I logged in today, heard the music, saw everyone running around in swim wear I immediately felt I was on the beach for some reason. Just couldnt stop smiling ^^. I must say, this is a great event, is lighthearted, easy to complete and you see a lot of people running around, is really fun, plus the wallpaper at the end to commemorate your achievement.

Surely, in about two weeks time close to the end of the event, because of the low population in servers, no one will be after the bombs anymore, save a few, but when the servers are to the brim come ps3 release, these events are gonna rock!

I am highly looking forward Halloween Event. This was mentioned in another thread, but I hope they start introducing event gear that is more than just for show. Firework dispensing Yukatas, warp staffs, movement enhancement gear, just a few I remember from XI.

This was exactly how I felt when I logged on. And I really enjoyed the music.

Now to be frank. The music IS crappy. However that does not mean it isn't fitting. It's like one of those musics you'll hear in parties that are awful to listen while at home or in your free time. But serve well in certain situations to liven things up and that is what this music does for me at this summer event.

i love the music it really gets you in the mood of the event lol.. it reminds me of the sims 1 kinda.. i can see though how it could get on peoples nerves because of the repetitiveness of it .. but thats what mute is for

I like the music but I think the personal attacks are uncalled for in this thread. Surely we can all acknowledge the fact that people have different tastes when it comes to music? The music does change when you move to areas not hosting the event, so its not like its everywhere. Any song played for 8 hours will get tiring, even 15 minute power metal arias. The music is designed to not only loop, but not overpower the game. Clearly the opposite of an actual mariachi band^^. That's why I do various things, cutting the music out while I chat online.

The jp could use a mariachi band, at any rate. I wish there was one playing right now in fact.

The music is rather perfect for the event and for a 'summer vacation' atmosphere. Like it.

The music is great, and will never get old. I played Tropico for hours on end with this exact music (same theme).
