    Never say die...

So...the other day I queued up for the Duty Roulette and found myself at the starting point for Aurum Vale...which was great for me since I needed to run it anyway for GC quest. So...extra rewards from roulette PLUS quest work...BONUS!

Now, I've never run this, but the WHM was nice enough to give some quick, concise explanations. First room and first boss were cake-walks. Easy, peazy.

Got to the second boss and was informed how THAT worked. Oh...great. Just like the big ogre thing in the Coerthas FATE...minus the warning signals on the ground. ...Lovely.

First try started out OK...but ended in party wipe with him down to roughly a third health left...give or take. OK. No problem.

    Regroup. Round 2. FIGHT!

Again...we started out doing pretty well. I kept watch on his health bar like a friggin hawk for big boss's skill cast bars, ready to run for the hills at a moment's notice. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, our tank could never seem to get out of the flippin way and got clobbered almost every time...DESPITE the fact that he had that big bastard running all over the room chasing him (which needless to say was severely hurting my DPS due to chasing after him trying to get a hit in...only to have to bolt the other direction cuz he's winding up for another "Uguu SMASH" attack). Eventually...tank fall down go splat...quickly followed by the Bard (did I mention that my DPS was getting fubar'd because of trying to chase big and ugly?).

Now its just me and the WHM. And guess who he's mad at. Yup! You guessed it. It wasn't me. WHM runs a bit...stops...and tries to get rez out (has cast time cuz no swiftcast cuz already burned cuz tank already faceplanted once in the fight)...only to have to stop and run some more. At this point I'm thinking do whatever it takes to get his attention. So I start throwing knives. After about the 3rd or 4th mosquito bite to his butt...now he's mad. "OK! Got his attention. ...What the hell was step 2? ...Oh yeah...RUN!"

While I'm running around tossing daggers behind my head and the occasional lightning bolt...the WHM now has enough breathing room to raise both the tank and bard...and we manage to remove the last remaining bits of the boss's health (which btw...was down to ~20% or less when it almost went to hell cuz Assassinate was lit up for me the entire time).

We caught our breath as we sighed our collective sigh of relief.

........Then the tank quit using the excuse "I have to reset my modem"

    .....................WHAT?

WHM pulled in another tank from FC and we did finish...so YAY!

    What was your tight spot?

Back last year when i90 was the best you could have and people were having trouble with Titan HM, I mained a BLM.

Long story short - I started casting LB3 right as the only other person alive (tank) died. My LB hit and titan died right as I was getting knocked over the edge by a landslide.
    We got the win

    Fun times.

AV always been a pain The 2nd Boss is kinda harder for Tanks since they got Swipe and Swing to dodge where as DPS just got to move away from Swing.

1.23. Girlfriend wanted to do the end of the era quests, which involved beating Nael van Darnus. Problem is, she had chosen to play as a WAR. Her lack of time meant that she had no other classes/jobs to play, and no experience at all actually being a tank. I had some LSmates give her a quick run down of proper tanking procedure, got a party together and went in. I forget how many wipes we had, but everyone was in good spirits and even though she was only one who hadn't beaten him yet, she was actually doing fairly well.

We decide to give it one more attempt before calling it a night. She was leaving for France the next day or so and wouldn't be back in time to finish the quests before the server died, so this fight was for all the marbles. We get in, start doing our thing. Make it through every phase, no problem. Suddenly, a healer DCs. We were close to pushing him into the meteor phase, so everyone took a break. Healer was gone for about five minutes before she came back. Put the hurt back on Neil, make it past meteors nice and easy. Get back on the ground, some DPS died, but our healers were on them quick. Thanks to our being tired, the healer DCing, some people dying, and just a couple of other weird errors here and there, we were very behind on the clock. Nearing 5 minutes left, he still has a bunch of health. One minute left, still some health. 10 seconds left and we're all on the mic, changing into pure dps. Calls for every last shred of damage were made, healers hitting, everyone doing the best they can.

The clock hit 0:00 and the screen goes black. Not a single breath from anyone, no sound at all. Finally a cutscene comes up, showing us our victory.

It was the best fight I've had in FFXIV period, both 1.x and 2.x. We beat Nael van Darnus with 0 seconds left on the clock. One of my very best memories in the game.

I had two simlar situations happen to me in different dungeons.

On DRG in Brayflox HM, me and 2 other FC mates went in to do it for an animus book after our healer had a tough time clearing it due to DC's and tanks that left for whatever reason. Dungeon starts and the tank runs off immediately pulling everything up to the ramp and hides in the little nook opposite the Colibris. WHM couldnt keep up and lost LOS and the tank died, and ragequit. An FC mate said hed join in progress but got a different instance >< . We waited a while for a tank but none showed, so I tanked the whole thing on DRG. Fun times.

On Titan EX after the weird bomb pattern, about 6 of us (myself included b/c of stupid jump animations) died to WoL. Titan was at about 2%. The healer, instead of LB3ing, rezzed me (wtf right?) I accept after he gets knocked off. I LB3 and we win. yay.

I remember leveling CNJ and battling Ifrit story mode. After we killed the nail, the other party members died meaning I had to solo him from that point on. You'd be surpirsed how far Aero and Cure can take you

    First kill of T11:
Everything going fine up to the end, then tethered tanks went down, I popped Manawall, both melee went down because of tether, I eventually get killed by Resonate, BRD goes down, SCH goes down, everyone's yelling because the boss is at less than 1%, WHM's holding on for dear life while throwing out Stone IIs...

Screen goes black, cutscene shows up, TS explodes. That was too close @.@

There are a few bosses in the game that are completely helpless against kiting. The Chimera in cutters cry has always been my favorite since his abilities allow even a melee to get some DOTs and cooldowns off during his lightning charge up and be out kiting again before he can hit you.

That said there is a time to say die as well, if all thats left is a Drg/Mnk/Nin and the boss has 75% hp remaining it's probably best to just take a dive. Though if the party really is bad sometimes you just have to do it yourself. ^^
