    Brayflox's Longstop & You Quitters

I've recently been running Brayflox's Longstop for the past few days and have achieved level 34 Warrior.

I have found something troubling with Duty Finder and this specific dungeon.
80% of the time I will queue in-progress and get 3/4 progress.

    ¬_¬
Is moving a dragon out of a poison AoE that difficult?

Playing as healer or DPS I've never encountered as many in-progresses as I do tanking (not this specific dungeon).
Do a lot of tanks just rage-quit because they know their queue times are so super short? Or is there some other reason behind it?

Yes, it can be difficult to move the dragon out of poison puddles if your party isn't helping with the effort. If the healer/ranged dps are positioning themselves poorly, you run out of poisonless spots fairly quick. If the dps is low, the floor fills with poison fast.

It was several times worse a year ago, before the 30 minute penalty. It's not just tanks either, healers are just as bad.

Pair a unexperienced SCH (no leeches - can't remove poison) or a bad WHM (which does not use esuna) with an unexperienced tank (bad positioning, eating the breath).
Even without the DPS f-ing up, the problem may rather be the tank dying from poison + breath than the boss healing.

Anyways, better luck next time keep ya head up

This is the first fight that I finally felt like I had real input into whether my group survived or died as a tank. Its also the reason I still have a stack of antidotes in my bag in case I end up with a scholar healer. Its certainly not their fault, but having them on my person makes tanking that fight so much easier.

It has never happened to me before but yeah dps/healer that know what they are doing is really helpful in beating Aiatar.

While levelling my WAR I had a few instances where people purposefully stood near poison pools so that new pools would spawn in an overlapping fashion. Doubtless to say, it was the easiest Brayflox run I ever had.

Then there are people that spread out and are all over the place. Then it becomes a dps check where I had to drop Defiance for that extra dps.

This fight is exponentially harder with mDPS over rDPS. But yea, this fight isn't too hard if you can dodge the breath and poisons don't get too out of control. The best run I ever did with was two BLM and the healer/dps just stood on the opposite side of the room. They would move when poisons hit, and I didn't have to move at all (since I wasn't getting spit at). Was nice. I also felt that this was the first fight that was not just LOLKILL

    It can be.

It's also the first place a bad tank - or just a bad run - can screw the party, and suddenly we're not having everyone sing our praises.
Had a bad run of Brayflox normal just the other night, actually, took two attempts to get the bugger. And it was my responsibility, I was having lag issues and the like, but it was nobody else's fault for sure. Well, there was some issues with where the poisons were going, but. Totally on me.
Didn't enjoy being yelled at to be better, that was not particularly helpful.

Before they improved the position checks of dungeons I had to sidestep back and forth, but not enough to turn the dragon much at all, so that when the poison breath came I was generally already on the move out of it when it came. Now I don't have to do that. However, those lizards that do the circle AOE ground stop before the second boss, for some reason those AOEs, and ONLY those, in that entire dungeon, are like a strobe light, pulse and hit, impossible to get out of. Ever since a recent patch. All other AOEs, from everything else, is normal and easily avoided for me. Weird.

Yes it greatly helps if you tank against a wall, and everyone else is against a wall as well. That way the middle of the room isn't getting filled up with poison. Melee DPS closer to a wall if you can than on the side of the dragon towards the middle of the room. Range people can just hug a wall behind the dragon. Once the poison pools start coming out, the range can then hug corners of outside wall and poison pools, further overlapping future poison pools, greatly reducing the amount of floor space being covered up.

There can be a lot of failure reasons. For all roles in the group. And, I dunno why a tank would rage quit, take a 30 minute penalty, versus trying a boss a few more times. Unless the group stunk that much. But then again, if you came in as replacement tank and cleared it, then obviously it wasn't the rest of the group that was the problem.

I remember running through there a year ago on my tank and loved it. That duty was the first "real" test of the game IMO. Working out mechanics never seen to that point was fun. I have ran, and have liked doing so on every class I have leveled since then. It was kinda iffy on SCH since I had no leech but still doable.

One of my more recent runs helping a FC member out with his NIN I tanked. Had a WHM who wouldn't esuna when needed. When I asked if I could get some esuna lovin he responded with "just hadn't bothered with doing the quest to get esuna so I don't have it"....

I was like, you get it at 18...

    Then he left....

My fiancee tanked this right after ARR launched while I was a SCH healer. The nightmare of that boss stalled our progress for a week or so until we got a FC group to get us past it. Then it was patched to make it slightly less horrible.

Since then, I've healed it on SCH in full pugs via roulette, what I've found is if there is one wipe on that boss 90% of the time Tank will immediately leave. Most wipes are from positional poison screw-ups, sometimes from new players learning it, sometimes the melee, sometimes the Tank just not doing anything helpful. I'm sure me not having leeches causes issues too, but its not impossible to heal though, just sucks.
