[dev1026] Claim system, should it really dissappear?

So, what do you think about the changes regarding the claim system?

The question about the "claim system" (Lodestone survey about the battle-system) came to a result that roughly 50% want a change and 50% dont want a change to the current system. If the claim-system dissappears, those 50%, who dont want a change, would probably argue and/or quit the game, the other 50% would like to see a change but seem to continue playing the game either way (cause it seems like they are still playing it at the moment).
So the conclusion is: changing the claim-system will only have more people to quit XIV.

For myself, I would think twice about to continue playing FF XIV, because for me this system is a great feature in XI and XIV.The reason why it’s great: It feels like "Final Fantasy".

Some years ago, right when I heard about FF XI online, I imagined how the battle system may look like. A group of adventurers would fight against a beast and people outside that group could only watch the fight, like watching someone playing an old-school FF game, and XI was just as I hoped for.

Other MMOs like Aion had this "everyone may attack that monster" and it sucked pretty hard. The possibilites about stealing loot and MPKing were nearly infinite. It was no fun to kill a great monster when you have to live in fear that anytime someone could come up and attack that monster as well and get the loot that should belong to you. No claim-systems are good...for casual MMOs like DC Universe Online but an online Final Fantasy just can't be casual.

Edit: Due to not knowing if "dev1026" should be in thread-title or not, I added it to it.

I wonder if maybe there is something in between, that would serve well? While it is a good thing that noone can steal your rewards, or leech on the work you've done before striking the killing blow and reap the spoils, it is frustrating not being able to help others in a fight. Unless you are a healer, there's no way to aid others you pass who are about to lose a battle. And I've always enjoyed that about online games, to lend a hand occationally.

So how about if you target and try to attack someone else's monster, that player will get a small notice in the corner (one that doesn't annoy them while fighting by flashing over half the screen), where they may choose to allow you entry to the monster. And if you do, you only get half the rewards you normally would, and they still get full reward.

    Or something like that?

Yes I agree completely on keeping the claim on the attacked mob. I would rather camp for 3 days to grab an NM than have it jacked by some R50 character. It is the pressure of the other person that drives you to drop the enemy as fast as possible so you can continue EXP/SP. It is basically Not FF if they drop the claim. I don't want to share what I'm fighting, others should not have to share their prey either.

Things I want the claim system to let me do without penalizing me:

    1) Kill multiple mobs at the same time with AoE attacks and get SP/EXP - I've engaged them in battle; I killed them heroically; I should earn SP/EXP

    2) After engaged in battle, be able to engage another aggroing enemy, kill him, and return to first enemy without losing SP/EXP. I should be allowed to determine the priority/order that I kill bad guys in - not the claim system, which rewards a battle strategy of foucsing on one enemy at a time.

Summing up - let me determine the order and prioritization of enemies that I engage in battle. Please don't create artificial barriers (SP/EXP reductions or loss) that force a particular battle style.

Of course the claiming system shouldn't be removed, it'd cause nothing but carnage and chaos with Notorious Monster camping and party on top of party camping for EXP/SP parties! It's a ridiculous idea and should never have been surfaced in the poll!

I agree keep the claim system as is, I would hate it that I am fighting a mob or NM just for a challenge and someone helps me beat it. Where is the fun in that? Especially if he was a High Rank player, It will take all struggle from this game which is already easy just too buggy. I agree with Strange, camping and watching others fight a tough battle and trying to use strategy not just brute strength and numbers. I rather be in a tough struggle is all worth it!!!!!

Naylia hit the nail on the head.
I understand why they put the 'claim only one monster/group' into effect because otherwise people can hog monsters left and right. However, if you accidentally aggro another monster, or group of monsters in a guild leve, you have to make sure to kill the first group while taking a beating and not touching the second group, or you get less SP for doing so on the unclaimed monster.
Or another examples which annoys me to death, is during a pursue leve. The monster runs away after you've been attacking it, becomes disengaged and doesn't regen to full HP, therefore, you lose SP. It's sooooooo annoying, and I personally think it's ridiculous to have to wait for the monster to regen to full health before getting full SP. I can't tell you how many times I've died with the monster at 1%. So what are you telling me that all that previous work was for nothing? Bogus.
Pretty much agree with exactly what Naylia said, I just wanted to elaborate on why it is annoying.

I swear if any person can jump in the fray, I'll probably not play anymore. I can just imagine that my LS would spend the 30 minutes killing a free roam NM, breaking all the parts to get the drops and just as it's at less than 5% health, a random person pops up hits it as its about to fall and gets our loot. Thats not fair. I don't care if they want to help but they shouldnt get the rewards

    Why can't it just be...

Remove only one claim per group at a time. So if you have two marmots next to each other and AOE you can kill them both and get SP/EXP/Loot at same time.

Loot and EXP/SP go to person who hits it first. Others can still attack it but gain nothing from it. Simple fix. Most games use the exact claim system I mentioned.

Why can't them mob drop multiples of the same item based on the number of parties/people fighting it and just make the loot drops only lottable by each separate group and reduce the number of items a nm drops per group based on the number of people in each group. Personally i'd rather see everyone with potential for rewards for thier groups seperately then repeat sitting in Dragon's Aery every day for 3 hours fighting for claims. There just has to be be a better way.
