Question about the change to job requirement

I've only been playing for about a month now, and I'm already seeing the same retarded patch notes with no explanation given that I had with WoW before I quit many years ago.

I've seen various comments by googling this, and the general consensus by people who actually understand things (not me), is that its RMT related.

Assuming this is the case: How? And furthermore, even if this is to slow things down, what about all the current bajillion already with their job crystal? Will it take it away or something? I wouldn't mind an indepth explanation.

For all the talk of RMT, all the ones I ever see are the level one's in Ul-Derp at level one, spam friend requests, whisper me, and then disappear before I can remove them. Level one's won't be impacted by a level 20 or even level 30 quest.

I'm going to hope someone here can explain this one before curiosity and frustration at stupid makes me hunt down a hacking forum to go find out what convoluted exploit involving three goats, a camel, and a subscription to redbox this fixed.

Took another look at the patch notes and have no idea what you are talking about

    From what I understand...

    • Do the Main Scenario Quest until and including "Sylph-management."

Exactly, I don't get it either. I don't see the need for the change, and any google search I do brings up people asking the same question. The answers are usually, "I don't know, but its probably due to RMT spammers and BLM's doing WP" or something similar. So I'm asking here, on the official forum, "Why?" Because Reddit (the place others are asking) doesn't know either and I wouldn't trust them anyway.

Can you please quote the part of the patchnotes you mean 'cause I have no idea what you are complaining about.

It was changed because SE decided it needed to be changed. I wouldn't be surprised that it is being changed to prevent RMT from being able to quickly make lvl 50 chars with jobs to spam things.

In the grand scheme of things it shouldn't effect a legitimate player.

It's a place you need to be at anyway as a legit player, that quest is right after you have joined a GC, which gives you retainers and your chocobo.

You can easily hit 50 and spam lower level content without unlocking a job, so I'm not sure why it's a RMT countermeasure.

I believe it is not to prevent RMT's but to make them easier to identify.

And for the OP... you dont understand because you have not played this game long enough to understand... you will start to see sooner or later though.

I believe lots of RMT use BLMs for the AoE abilities which mostly come from the job and not the class.

I wouldn't discount the added roadblock for RMT, but it may also be something they did for consistency. The SMN job quest doesn't make much sense if you haven't beaten Ifrit:

A request has come to our guild from the Sons of Saint Coinach─an organization of some of the finest minds in Eorzea─and they have asked for you by name.
It appears that the research the Sons are currently conducting would benefit from the assistance of an arcanist─specifically one who has had the tempering experience of defeating the primal Ifrit.
Though I must admit to some curiosity as to how these scholars knew the extent of your heroic exploits, I suppose the source of their knowledge is of little relevance...
And they might just want it to be fair for all jobs to have to get to the same point.

Sylph Management is also after you join a GC, so it's the first quest where there's one story line for everyone, with no variations on starting city/GC affiliation. Not sure if that factors into the other job quests at all.
