    DPS Parsers in Youtube videos.

Hi hi dear people!... The question I have today is not properly mine... A friend, who obviously doesn't want to ask this himself wanted me to post his worries about the matter in question for him, so here it goes...

He's doing a few videos in the net that he made private because suddenly he had some... FEAR... To what? Well, he does organize few trials and dungeons while using and showing a DPS parser and the DPS values of all his party and his...

What he wants to know is... You know the law of those things "Don't ask don't tell". He's obviously showing, giving proofs to the others that he uses those programs, not happy with it he's boasting it in the red, youtube... He's afraid of that some people would actually report him and use the videos so he had to turn those private and only giving links to some friends...

His question, even if large is...

Can you get banned because posting a video in youtube with your DPS parser there? Would you get banned if someone would report you for it and use your video?

He has a bit of hopes in the fact that the videos are not being posted in properly FFXIV environment, forum, lodestone, etc, but in a third party place, youtube... But he'd want to have a developers' answer about the matter. Do I have a weapon against him and a way to blackmail him just because I posses a link? (*evil smirk* Okay no)

    Thanks for reading!

When they were clarifying their stance they basically said that, they can't support any 3rd party program, parser or anything else, as it's against their TOS for obvious reasons, but as long as you don't go abusing other players with the numbers you get from it in-game, you'll be fine.
This!...I saw the video and he doesn't bully any player about the DPS or the values in the game, he neither names it in chat... To put in concept, the players in that dungeon, and anyone, wouldn't know he was using it if they wouldn't watch the youtube... So it is not the case of someone getting cocky because high DPS and bullying others... Is not a bad usage of the DPS parse at all, just... A clear evidence in youtube (Not inside the game) that he's using this.

Also...By the way you name Lucrezias it seems like a very good known group of persons... And well known persons always have many haters, thus, being target for rage-reports... They are the example number one so... Now I wonder... Did any of them earned a ban this way?

I think your friend is safe lol. There are plenty of people that parse and post youtube videos with it on. If your friend wants to be completely safe, just don't post youtube videos of you parsing. Or just don't parse.

Can't say it's a question I know that much about since I only have the vaguest idea of what exactly parsers are XD
But I think so, yes. There was someone (Mr Happy? Or someone else? I really don't remember) who had posted a number of youtube videos, and then he posted one about having been suspended because of someone reporting him for parser use -- the "funny" thing was that the video apparently used as reason for it didn't even have any parser use in it, just in-game features. So yes, I'd say it's definitely a possibility to get suspended if someone reports based on video and/or stream evidence.

Can you get banned for it? Yes, as it is against the ToS. Are you likely to get banned for it? No, and the community would probably know if that had ever happened before.

Well, in my opinion, people who would really be so bored and... Evil to report others just for showing their DPS in youtube should go to hell... But there's people for everything, so my friend wants to know if... Given the case, he'd have troubles because of a hater watching the video.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! Hoping to see more opinions about the matter, I'm also curious about it, and couldn't give neither a proper right answer to him.

It's, in theory, forbidden. But in practice, I've never heard of a case where someone was banned for that (I mean, showing a parser in a YouTube video).

However, if he's caught in an argument with another player on the subject of "who sucked at DPSing", that other player can report him and give a link to his video, proving that your friend is using a third party software and was using that to parse the DPS of said player.
There have been some explicit cases of someone being whispered by GMs ingame on the subject of using parsers. Some got a temp ban if I recall correctly.

So, the answer to your concern is: is your friend 100% safe? No. Is he safe enough? Well, yes, to some degree.

You can get banned for it, but you can also get banned for pretty much anything, ToS are usually very generic, publishers don't even need a reason to ban you and it still would be covered in their ToS.

As long as you're not misusing 3rd party tools (like cheating, exploiting the game or harassing people) you will be fine, they are still not supported but SE wont enforce the rules on them.

You can get banned if someone reports you for using a parser to grief them, If you brag about using them, someone seeing you using them in a video and catches your username and reports you etc.

He hid his videos (or you under the guise of your "friend") because he was afraid someone would catch his name on his videos and get him banned.
