I kindof just reiterated that in my last post. I said I *should've* said most of the "non seasonal" events I've been in have involved fates...and that I've only been subbed since April. So most of the events *I* have participated in have involved fates. Which is slightly off topic but maybe now you can understand why I decided to post in the first place. Such a friendly community here. Always willing to point out another's faults. You have a nice day now

Does anyone remember the Christmas event from FFXI from like 2004? It was almost 10 years ago, so I don't remember the details, but I thought it was very fun for a holiday event at the time. I almost consider that event to be a lot like a FATE from how I remember it. It was fun to me then, but I don't think it would work in ARR. It would have the same problems as S-Ranks first had because of all the people hitting the super strong Christmas tree NM. Imagine an S-Rank with enough HP that it survives for over an hour. If it wasn't lag city, it might be amusing.

    They aren't.

Amusingly, after complaints on the OF that they WERE, we had more events that didn't include them... and there were complaints that questing was annoying, trading was annoying, etc. <____>
    Can't win with these...

My best guess: the reason the three cross-over events were FATEs is that it made them easy to implement. When they were originally put in the game (especially the Lightning one), the servers had just barely reached any kind of stability, and everything had been pushed off-schedule by the game's rocky relaunch. The FATEs for these events are just like FATEs the game already had, just with different models and dialog, so they were easy to create, and they're easy to turn on and off.

Development is finally approaching some kind of stability and schedule (though they're still lagging behind on a handful of things). Events from here on will hopefully be less FATE-y.

Yeah, I don't get the idea that they're all FATEs. I don't remember doing very many FATEs at all. And the ones that did have FATEs made sense for them to be FATEs over quest objectives. Don't really know what all you're wanting out of the events, but they can't be any more varied than they already are.

They have some of the worst holiday events ever in XIV. Basically "visit each town and talk to a couple NPCs. Gratz you're done"

    It is quite sad really.

Lol what? The holiday events we get look like something they gave an intern the afternoon to come up with.

A Veteran MMO gamer knows that the experience of the game is stretched out over years, and if crafted properly, it leaves players with some of the best gaming experiences to be found anywhere.

You'd rather have instances that you can only access once a year (at most)?

Did you try the Calamity Salvager? He sells the Yukatas.

Only if you previously got them through the event. The Salvager sells stuff you already had at one time. If you miss an event, the salvager doesn't do you any good.

You must be the type that glosses over text and skips cutscenes. Every event has had a story that compels you to see it to the end. The recent Valentione event wasn't so much about you spreading love as it was about the organizer NPC finding love for herself. The yukata event was a roegadyn living out the wish of a sick child they'd met as an adventurer. Heavensturn was a feud between Far Eastern horse enthusiasts and the Chocobo Breeder's Association (with a freak from Ishgard intervening). Each event has had a well crafted story that made them fun and well worth doing. Makes me sad that you can't do them again without making a new character.
