As for exactly how to implement the subset specialization, I thought it would be really cool if SE used something similar to the License Board from FFXII. Here's a couple images I made with Photoshop of what it could possibly look like:

This is such a bad idea! Anything but this! Sphere-grid/license-grid/crap is just a bad idea! Just as bad as FFXII was - which was absolutely AWFUL!

Sure, something like the Sphere Grid from FFX could work just as well. Personally, I don't see a whole lot of difference between the Sphere Grid and the License Board. They're both essentially the same thing.

Well I rather liked FFXII, thank you very much. But if you don't like the idea, do you think you could give a reasonable explanation as to why, instead of just going "OMG THAT'S SO STUPID"?
