Sure, but this is 100% not Square Enix's fault. This is a routing issue to Montreal through Level 3 Communications.

People who want to complain need to complain to Level 3, not Square. Square isn't going to give us any compensation because this is not their issue. Why should they have to "pay out of pocket" to us when nothing is their fault?

Yes, it's their fault that they are hosted in one of the data center meccas of the entire freakin' world! How dare they go some place with the infrastructure to support their needs (most of the time, anyway) that isn't the USA!

Trust me, given the issues, and the fact that L3 covers a number of American datacenters as well, this would be just as likely to be happening right now if the servers were hosted in the US.

Companies aren't choosing Montreal for datacenters just because it's cheaper. It's very quickly becoming one of the top places in all of North America, and to some extent the world (barring physical location issues like latency), because it has the infrastructure that customers demand and the people and policies to make and let it happen. The issue here isn't that SE cheaped out on a few servers, it's that the data center they are undoubtedly colocated in gets service through Level 3, which is known for having a number of very serious issues when it comes to peering agreements and general competence. This is where almost every network-related issue (that isn't entirely user-side) has been coming from lately. Level3 serves so many data centers that the odds of this happening in the USA are *just* as bad.
