An idea from FFXI, feel free to dismiss it solely based on that thought;
- Every week, the servers Grand Companies are ranked based on a number of factors.
- First place receives a 10% discount on any item purchased with Company Seals.
- Second place receives a 5% discount on any item purchased with Company Seals.
- Thrid place cries for a week. Try harder, losers. Perhaps they get a boost to Seals earned to try and motivate people into doing content though.
Rankings could be based on a few different pieces of content;
- Frontlines victories (tally a server populations number of Frontline matches and win ratio).
- Supply and Provisioning Missions done for the Grand Company.
- Grand Company Levequests done.
- New open world content that this game is sorely lacking. Maybe also have Grand Companies issue repeatable quests that use existing content (tied to Hunts/Primals/Dungeons/etc.).
- Perhaps anything that earns Company Seals, I'd be hesitant to do that though, since it means that first place has more Seals and a discount. If third place earns more Seals though, that would be a nice way to balance it out.
Also, isn't it about time we got new Grand Company Ranks, with stuff that's actually worth getting? Seriously... Sometimes I wonder why Grand Companies are even in this game... Why have factions if they're not going to compete? Frontlines is fun, but that's locked away in an instance. All the existing dynamic does in a PvE environment is make it annoying that you cannot glamour/obtain certain pieces of gear.
Main benefit of such content? It's sandbox-like. Why do you do most current content? To get that thing. Once you've gotten it, done. With something like this, you keep going back to ensure your Grand Company holds the #1 spot, though that's mostly going to affect Frontlines. At the very least it can give Grand Company Levequests a purpose outside that one time you need to do them for an Animus weapon...
