Speak A Little Louder! - Voices too quiet during combat

    Hey there!

So there are a number of fights--off the top of my head, I name Nero tol Scaeva and Gilgamesh as examples, but are not restricted to them--where the boss has voiced lines of dialogue. However, these lines of dialogue are often entirely drowned out by sound effects from the battle. It wasn't until I dropped all audio mixers except voice to 10 and cranked up my speakers that I could actually hear these bosses speak and what they were saying.

Can we give Nero or Gilgamesh a megaphone of some kind? They need to learn how to project their voices!

They are drowned out by all the high pitched female miqo'te BRD voices, so loud.

But it would be nice to have the boss voices to be put on a higher priority than the other voices/sound effects.

Here I thought it was just my audio settings. I fiddled my settings so the sound effects were higher and party fx were reduced. I was able to hear one of the castrum meridianum say something about glory to the empire.

I've done that dungeon plenty of times and had no idea these lackys had dialogue. It was also nice to hear more milder sound fx from bosses.

Eh? Gilgamesh I find speaks fairly loudly already. Garleans though... None of them speak clearly, guess their helmets muffle them? The Garlean officer who says something upon death has been around since 1.0, even back when when GMs were spawning hundreds in Ul'dah, I couldn't work out what the hell he says. One year on from the games relaunch and he is still finding it impossible to project his voice, it's kinda sad...

The dialogue for many of them does appear in the chat log, but most players don't catch it in time in the heat of battle if the lines are even included in the chat. I wouldn't mind the volume getting upped or giving them visible speech balloons (like done with Gilgamesh) to give us the chance to understand these little tidbits.

You can always configure the sound. As a default, EVERYTHING is set to 100%. Tweak it to suit your needs. My personal setting: Sound Effects 70%, BGM 50%, Ambient Sounds 30%. The other stuff is at full 100%.

I've done that. I had to set everything to about 20% or lower except Voices and crank the volume just to get a shadow of the desired effect.

I wish NPC and PC voices were on different sliders. Playing as a bard, it is awful to hear myself draw with a pained grunt on nearly every GCD, but the only option is to go through the menus to change it (via controller takes a bit longer) every time I want to adjust it.

Having text commands for sound settings, or sound profiles that can be toggled via text would be a good start.
