I think the main reason that it's avoided is that it's so close to 50. Sastasha, aside form being easy, is going to get repeated a lot because it can always come up in your roulette. AV has a tiny window of relevance. Once you hit 50 it's no more or less relevant that any other sub 50 dungeon. Low level roulette rewards are the same across the board and Animus books hit pretty much all of the dungeons (except the ones newer than the books).
Being the highest level sub 50 dungeon it's probably a bit harder than most of the others and a lot less relevant to normal play so people are less familiar with it. It's not exactly difficult, but some of the mechanics might seem stressful for new players.

Yuck. Hate that place. Hate healing it more. Go with friends. Dunno if it got nerfed or not since a year ago, I still prefer to avoid it. You don't have your level 50 eek! spells in there and I guess that's the most frustrating.

The reason I avoid it is that when I started playing, the dungeon was broken and laggy. It took me more than 10 different groups to only kill first boss. And I dont even want to know how many times it took to actually clear it.
I was about to quit the game when I finally found a group that was patient enough to just keep wiping until we beat the last boss 5 min left on the clock.
i had been stuck on it for a month, and I needed the clear to unlock amdapor keep to get my first relic.
Yeah SE didnt impress me when I finally hit 50 and couldnt do any content due to lag on their part

I actually get excited when I get AV in Low Level Roulette. ^^

AV has to be cleared in order to gain access to the Hunt Board right?
A good Paladin can alleviate that. Shield Bash/Swipe are great for making that boss a joke. I imagine a lot of Ninjas are about there lately too, and Perfect Dodge works great against his Swings. Basically just Stun/Pacify Glower/Eye of the Beholder, Pacify is particularly great because it seems to confuse his AI a bit, he'll just stand there trying to use moves like a chump.

I don't mind doing Aurum Vale every once in a while, especially when I'm leveling up another job. The 2nd boss can be difficult since the area is rocky and you can get stuck sometime while running from an atk.
Last boss can get crazy due to aoes, random plants spewkng poison plus all those adds especially if you only have melees
I hate AV because it has Malboros. Is that not reason enough?
Ok. Thing I hated about Aurum Vale pre-patch is how the last boss almost required a BLM or a BRD in the party. DRG and MNK have AoE as well at this level but its slow or not as hard hitting. I've had people quit AV right at the beginning because there wasn't a BLM or a BRD in the party and it comprised of two melee. They've since made it easier now, so AV definitely isn't as hard as it used to be. My first time in there was an adventure, to say the least.
Like the place as a DPS, hate it as a healer.
I think the only real time I'm really happy to see AV is when a class hits 47. Cause that mean's its almost done leveling. xD
