Realm Reborn has stopped working

I log in and hit the start button but every time it tells me the game has stopped working and wont even take me past a black screen. Is there maintenance I just didn't hear about and if not does anyone have an idea of what is going on?

It should tell you when you login, before you hit [PLAY] that the server is down for maintenance.

Consider checking your firewall and antivirus to make sure it isn't blocking the program's connection to the server. If that doesn't work, there might be an error in your game files, so you may have to reinstall the game. If that doesn't work, talk to tech support.

There may have also been some data corruption with the last update, so you can try to rollback your system as well and just reapply the update to see if it gets it correct this time around. It's less time-consuming than reinstalling the game.

You may try to torrent or directly transfer the game files from a friend, replacing your missing or corrupted data files with a working copy. Obviously, there's a huge risk, so try to get a file copy from a irl friend with the game and then run a repair to make sure it all checks out.

Sorry thats happening to you. I've had the same types of issues; things that helped me with various issues:
~~go into config and change screen type (ie from fullscreen to borderless windowed) I can't play in FS without it glitching every 2-4 log-ins
~~when logging out, always wait for the icon in tray to go away before starting up another program (even opening one that's already open can sometimes cause it trouble)
~~restart the computer then try again
~~try running the program as admin
~~if you hit play and you sit on your desktop/black screen, wait 2-5m I've found that the cinematic will usually start playing after "inactivity" and enable you to ESC to the main menu

A year ago I had this problem after a fresh installation of Windows 8 and FF14.

I could fix it by installing directx9, which is not shipped with the initial windows 8 installation or ff14.
