Has the idea of simply renaming SMN been considered? And making a traditional Smn.

Its just thought I had. Keep our job Summoner intact. Minus renaming it. Maybe restructuring the Egis into some undecided type of summon. Then build a traditional summoner class from the ground up. A new standalone class like Dark Knight. This would give everyone divided on the issue what they want more or less. Leave your thoughts on this idea as you see fit.

They won't do that because the way the storyline has been written (and this has been the case since version 1.0) is that the Primals require such enormous quantities of aether to sustain in the material world, it also requires a huge amount of devotion and worship, that far exceeds what one mere mortal is capable of (when the beastmen summon it requires a whole team of evokers all summoning simultaneously). One single adventurer summoning just couldn't cut the mustard. This is also why the Primals temper (as in, brainwash).

Also the Primals here are so dangerous, they clearly would not be satisfied answering to the beck and call of the one who has been constantly attacking them (and is the lap dog of their very nemesis, ala Hydaelyn). Not to mention the whole act of summoning in the first place is a power given to the beastmen by the Ascians, who are kind of our sworn enemies.

That is why SMN in FFXIV summon egis, a shortcut which summons a portion of a Primal's power and not the Primal itself, as that's all that can be done. So yeah, it's clear SE are not going to redesign SMN to be like FFXI's version - egis are here to stay..

Yeah that is more likely. Still it'd be nice to have our cake and eat it. honestly I'm fan of both class styles. I just want both in game :P And while I don't mind the class we now summoner. It just doesn't feel right to call it something that it really isn't.
Given the history summoner they could stand revisit the idea of a traditional summoner. Besides there has been talk of doing more with primals from a player prospective. That suggests there maybe a shift in the main story for how the primals are perceived. I wouldn't expect anything like this in near future. We'd be talking way down the pipeline before it'd make sense.

SE already expanded the lore on Summoning Primals with Lady Iceheart. Lady Iceheart let herself get possessed by Shiva's soul and summoned Shiva by embodying the Primal also becuase of Hydaelyn's Echo she maintained control over Shiva.

The lore itself questions the methods of "summoning" the Mog King and Shiva, and their true nature though.

While the following are truly "summoned primals": Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Leviathan, Ramuh... the Mog King and Shiva do not quite fit the bill. The Mog King was purportedly the embodiment of the Mogsguard's wishes, and it is still questionable whether he is the Mog King that they knew or something that they crafted from the combination of their wishes, aether and crystals. Shiva was a saint of the heretics; unless the lore says otherwise, she was probably originally an Elezen which would mean she was not a primal in the traditional sense and was only summoned "as" a primal due to the effect of the summoning ritual.

The Allagan way of "summoning" was by creating an egi from the remnants of a defeated primal. With the way that the lore is going, it's possible that true primals like Titan will remain as egi because they have their own will. However, "created" primals like Mog King and Shiva might be accessible through a different means of summoning altogether, because they seem to have been created from the summoner's wishes. That said, I hope this subject will be touched up come Heavensward/increase in level cap.

Mog King was summoned the same way normal Primals were summoned but in the cut scenes the Scions said it wasn't a Primal. After Shiva is defeated the Scions during the cut scene says she was a true Primal because of the readings she was giving off.
Shiva is not a created Primal she is a Elder Primal.
