If You Tanks Can't Handle Your Oversized Pulls...

...then just scale back and take it slower. In the last 2 days, I have been in expert and high level roulettes where the tank pulled more monsters than they were capable of handling and in 4 of those cases, after the tank died on the first pull, they either quit or blamed the rest of the party for dying and got kicked immediately thereafter.

It seems that the crazies from Brayflox's Longstop Hard have gotten loose from their cage and are spreading throughout the other dungeons. If this is a sign of things to come, I am worried for everyone who doesn't play dungeons as a tank.

Why some tanks do this, I'll never know. But AMEN to your statement that they need to scale back and take it slower.

Well that's just silly. Usually I warn the party that I'm going to pull and, if I fail to survive the overpull, I apologize to the party.

If tanks have treated you unfairly otherwise, I do apologize on their behalf.

I only recently got my PLD to 50. Today I just hit ilvl 90. I know that some players try to force you to do it, but I fear the day I have to tank Brayflox HM. When my WHM would get Brayflox just after passing i90 (which was nearly immediately), the first thing I said was that I wasn't comfortable with it, and they just told me to heal. As a tank, you control the party a bit more than the others, so you should have the ultimate say in how much you pull, don't let others force you into pulling more than you can handle. If they don't like it, too damn bad.

I am one of those tanks that do big pulls but not in the latest dungeon especially when the iLV has gone up and these dungeons have been attuned to me abit of challenge for us.

See the thing is about big pulls is that it's how the party as a whole handles and you got to ask yourself is my party well geared enough? You can be a iLV130 Tank but if your DPS are just hit iLV90 then your gonna run into the trouble of the mobs lasting too long and the healers MP running out.

And over pulling, regardless will get everyone killed. There is nothing productive about it. Most tanks know their limit, some exceed it.

As a Paladin, I make sure that I never pull more than I can keep aggro on. But lately, I've been getting pressure from DDs to pull bigger. To the extent that some of them will run ahead of the party, pull more monsters, and bring them back to me, expecting me to pull the additional monsters off them.

    I don't.

As a tank, I agree. Before leaving the barrier, I check peoples' gear just to get a feel for how capable they may be and make a pull based on that. Something big enough to be fast but small enough that should it go "Oh sh**!" I will have appropriate buffs to support myself. After that pull, I adjust accordingly to DPS speed, mana on healer, and attitude (if someone tells me to speed up).

Generally if people (healer in particular) are wearing current raiding gear, I take that as a sign to go a bit faster for that first pull. Sure, there are good healers outside coil, but I think it's better to play it a bit safer. But, that's just me. Not all tankers are utter scrubs XD

If you don't respect your healers, you're gonna have a bad time!

    Also, this:

Yeah...I seem to have forgotten "don't let others force you into pulling more than you can handle" onto that...let me go fix that...

That should be determined by the composition of your party. two black mages in full 110, and a well-geared healer? i'm pulling as much as i can handle.

dps or healer at the required ilvl, or a lack of AOE capablility? one mob group at a time.

if a healer cannot sustain the tank for the duration of a big pull, or it would be faster to do small pulls, there is no reason to pull an entire room to the boss gate.

but none of this matters if the healer in my group says no. the tank may set the pace, but the healer has too keep me alive.
