Bard DPS can be fairly aweful... and painful... towards other jobs as it is. I've done dozens of ST runs, CT runs before it, done a decent share of coils 1 and 2... I don't see any reason how bard needs a boost, at all. As for measured results in ST runs, I have seen bards dominate in dps and total damage output, like high up. With only BLMs being a more dominant job followed by SMN, and occasionally an 'exceptional' MNK or DRG. I can't touch on Ninja's dps overall, but for those who actually adjusted pretty well and quickly to the job, they are pretty lethal in dps, even for the short time it's been out.
With 24 man raids like ST where mainly BLMs and BRDs tend to take the top 5 positions over multiple runs with different make ups of players (this is mainly DF Syrcus Tower), it would be hard to believe the 19 other players, Melee, caster, tank, healer or other dps. 'would suck' compared to a bard.
The word I searched for? Barrage. I can't believe no one has mentioned barrage in a post. Or at least my browser didn't find it properly spelled. As a main bard, here's my 2 cents on improving dps tremendously. Use Hawk's Eye > Barrage, like a marriage couple. Hawk's Eye is a 20 second ability that increases DEX (your ranged attack power) by 15%, and 'gaurantees all hits to land'. This isn't a joke of an ability at all. Healers get Attunement in PvP that increases evasion alot to a point where you almost dodge 'any' attack (and reduces damage by 90% but that doesn't matter here). So high, almost no attack lands, unless Hawk's Eye overrides it. Barrage, doubles auto-attacks dealt for 15 seconds, and the trait unlocked at 44 enhances that to 3x auto attack damage. Their cooldowns are synced up at 90 seconds. Splitting them can only be excused when using AoE attacks. Whenever the combination is up and you're dealing with bosses or mobs with high HP, use it... (But do pay attention to enmity, at the start of the fights, it can really rip hate quickly to a point where tanks struggle for stable hate).
Now I'm sure people have mentioned before, but I have heard some other bards don't realize exactly which songs give penalties, or rather not. Army's Paeon and Mages Ballad induce a penalty of 20% reduced damage. Foe requiem however, does not. It reduces Elemental resistances on foes. Might help 'Windbite' (wind based), Venomous bite and Flaming arrow (fire based). Poisons having a tendency to be aspected to a certain element, or at least water in FFXI (which I suspect Venomous bite be partial towards). But even if it doesn't boost your own dots, it will help out black mages a lot in damage, while you don't sacrifice any of your damage output for it. Black Mages in my opinion, are king in AoE attacks, and a bard helping with Foe boosts them to heights unattainable otherwise. This is or rather should be considered as additional DPS because of bards. While not as direct, it is as effective.
From my perspective, bards need to try and improve themselves constantly in terms of play as well as situations. Try to use most if not all abilities where it's applicable. Analyze the fights you do for patterns and plan on how to maximize your performance. This goes for song usage (no overuse and no lack of use) , flaming arrow usage and whether or not to use single target (including Barrage) or multiple target (including flaming arrow and Foe Requiem) abilities.

And show this big story
TL;DR But aside of how I just kinda show how I do it, I do agree that the character limit should at least be increased 'over posts' and maybe increase the limit per day as well. It's not like I would want to continuously post walls of texts, but for someone with over 500 posts, I think should have the limits be relieved a little more.Originally Posted by Hiranai Vashai

There should quite simply be no limit at all. This forum is the only forum I've ever encountered which has this sort of restriction in place. It serves no logical purpose, whatsoever.
Solution:I am saying this because there have been quite a number of forum threads where the content of the thread relates to me and I want to say everything I feel needs to be said to either support to contradict the OP but I can't because of the fact that Forum posts are limited to 1000 characters.
Because of this, I have been forced to omit some very important points that I felt had significant relevance and as a result I feel greatly frustrated.
If the character limit was 1500 or 2000, because I can truly convey my thoughts in full within 1500-2000 characters, it would be greatly appreciated.
Step 1} TYpe out reply in its entirety.
Step 2} Select All -> Cut
Step 3} Type "Edit Incoming" and Post it.
Step 4} Get yourself a nice strong whiskey.
Step 5} Edit Post, Paste back in your real reply, save change.
Yeah its a little annoying, but it gets the job done.
Does anyone else have an issue of your forum sig disappearing if you don't refresh the page before editing your post?
When I first post something, the like brackets below it (and below any other posts that have been put up since I last loaded the page) are empty like () and if I hit edit on it while it's like that, I get taken to the advanced editing page. Editing it there and saving it removes my sig from the post.
If I do the initial post and then refresh the page and then hit edit, I get an in page edit box (similar to the reply with quote box) instead of going to the separate advanced page and the sig remains intact.
In the end I have to do this silly little song and dance to do a proper post: post "edit incoming" (or something like that), refresh the page, THEN edit in the post correctly.
It's odd... o.O
I have to do an 'Editing for length' pretty much every time I quote someone or want to post pictures. (Which is 98% of my posts) I agree with everyone else in that they really should just do away with the limit completely.

Another fun aspect of this is that it's basically impossible to submit a bug report using the templates they ask you to use without editing to bypass the limit.
10 posts per page is only the default setting; it is bad, and you should feel bad if you haven't changed it.

The daily limit is actually a 24hr limit. Basically each post counts towards your limit for 24hrs after it's made. I've personally only ran into the limit once but it CAN get annoying when you're having a back and forth discussion in a thread and you smack into it. The limits are fine for newer players but I agree that once your character is 50 and your post count is high enough the limits should be increased or removed.
The first forum they had for XI well over a decade ago was even more heavy-handed, if you can believe it. As a company, I believe that SE just doesn't want to hear thoughts that are critical of their games, especially this one. They stick their heads in the sand, willfully misinterpret things we ask for (like open-world bosses, queue fishing, etc.) and then go out of their way to cherrypick things out of the "ask us questions" threads that they had already decided they were going to reveal. It's actually quite disappointing, because YoshiP had an open dialogue for a while there and now it's just going back to the same old Square Enix.
The limitations on this forum are silly and I have never encountered anything like it, either.
Unfortunately, to us, it may appear to be so but it may have its purpose elsewhere that we may not know of.
Honestly, the traffic on the forums is not heavy enough for me to even use the max allowed posts a day. Many threads are merely repeats and a lot of threads come from the same individuals who aren't really great sources. Once everything is filtered out, there aren't a lot of threads.
Most days, 1,000 character limit is more than plenty and on those days I do feel like lengthy is required, it only takes a few more seconds to get it posted.
People must be really are running out of things to complain about lately if we are rioting over the 1,000 character limit on a forum.
