^This was stated in regards to post #6. It's factually wrong in a literal sense. "Jerkdom" is not an epidemic based on demographics, it's based on species I believe.

Just wanted to point that out. Post #6 was pretty good advice for anyone imo.

As a tank I know what it feels like to be insulted by lousy people. When the game first started I was learning my job just like dps and healers are learning their jobs, sometimes dps do things intentionally to make tanks look bad. How so? Let's say we mark targets in attack order. Why are you attacking 3 and I'm on 1. Sometimes I queue as healer and if a tank is struggling I have no problems given helpful advice without putting a player's play style or just plan insulting someone. I do miss the days of 1.0. People where nice to each other back then, I guess you had to because you wanted the game to do well and in order for it to. You as a person had to help keep people interested in the game in order for it to survive.

I agree with you in regards to marking but it may not be intentional that DPS are fighting #3 and not #1. It may just be lack of understanding or experience as to why it matters. For example, my friend just started playing the game and she is entirely new to MMO's, so I am helping her get through her first few dungeons. I repeatedly have to ask her to fight #1 and then #2, but she seems to have gotten in the habit of just hitting Tab which selects the enemy closest to you and fights that. Knowing she is new, I have been doing my very best to guide her in understanding that this will cause problems in the future if she runs dungeons with anyone other than me and my LS. A lot of people are just not as patient as we are with new players and I really want to see her succeed. Despite this she often forgets or just is not paying attention and just selects the thing closest to her I mentioned. I know its not intentional, but short of letting her die to the monster that she pulled off the tank to teach her WHY it MATTERS, I dont know how else I can get her to understand this. Patience and repeated reminders are all I can do right now.

I still see this all the time, and it drives me nuts. As DPS if there are no marks, yeah I'll go nuts as apparently thats their intention; but if I see an order I follow it, its not hard. Not like two days ago I was tanking snowcloak and still getting a grip on the dungeon, so I was marking mobs to make the run as smooth as possible. Yet here comes NIN hotshot going straight for 2 with full burst, then 4, then 3 and so forth - even going as far as to start pulling for me once (which he apparently got the message when I didn't grab hate off what he pulled). I just sit back and ask 'why?' to myself.

I mean really, not only are you making it harder for the tank to do their job, you're making your own run that much slower by causing chaos. So between acts like that and the already mentioned verbal abuse people throw out, its no wonder we're hurting for tanks. People give it a shot and then get beatdown by the community. I don't give up PLD because it was my fav job in XI, but I can't play it nearly as much as I like before I just get tired of dealing with the people. It shouldn't take resorting to FC only parties to want a decent run, and by decent I mean cooperation among the party. It sure as hell didn't back in XI, though maybe because we actually had something to lose in XI also.

My response is to advise the healer not to heal them as they obviously want to try and solo mobs. let em try. First time, I'll take it back, second time. They want it, they tank it. If they rage after dieing a couple of times, I explain numbers in most annoying way possible. Then they either learn, or rage quit the run to get quickly replaced.

Everyone wins. except the nerd rager, but who cares about them? XD

Near every situation I've had players like that, they have been playing as a Lolafail.

I've done this many times. I've done it because a tank marking a target isn't always right. I've had tanks mark sleepable targets which can be left till last, reducing the amount of dmg/gear wear he has to take. I've had tanks mark the avis rather than the harrier in snowcloak etc. I've had tanks mark one of a large group of mobs when his dps are both blms, roles which excel at aoe over single target damage. As much as the rest of the team need to have respect for the tank, there are a hell of a lot of tanks out there that don't trust their dps to know their own roles or trust dps to know what to focus on or even when its safe to push the dps harder and take hate.
