I'm glad SAM is going to be a DD/dps job I always fancied samurai's but if they are waiting to release it in some future patch after 3.0 will we see another DD/dps job that's in 3.0, or is SE just going to have dark knight and the new healer job and that's it for the expansion. Looks like i'll still be subbing till I hear what all SE plans on adding in the expansion.

sorry but only this part did make me laughs, Dark knight had a nice hitting capacity, but it was far to be the monster you try to tell us... *sighs* many jobs was simply doing better in older game and we don't talk of FF11.

about the SAM as DPS it's logical! god, a samurai spend him whole life with only one goal... kill him enemy!
but still i can't understand them reason for not add it, with the add of the ninja it was logical to bring the samurai behind, Doma must be the place where the two jobs was coming from. and with more and more refugies coming. it was easy to simply say that some swordmaster from the east have arrive and want to teach them way to face an enemy for revenge him family or lord or whatever he want to advenge....

same the fact that another japanese jobs was added before don't hold... samurai and ninja are the only two jobs japanese. you can check no other jobs oriented japanese in the FF series.
i simply hope people will be louds enough for make them change them mind and add it!

but something bother me...why soken did hint the samurai? if it was not planned to add it? i means it was teased while the las vegas fan fest i doubt they have change them mind between las vegas and london! something fishy about all of this.

ps: actually it's why make a music for a jobs they don't plan to release! it's times, energy and money spend on something that will never be used.

The general reason behind renaming something with translations is to do how they make people react, and lure new people. While I would've loved the JP name myself, it is a bland name to english speakers. Think about the Resident Evil games, they were called Biohazard in JP. If that name was the english name too, would it catch people's eyes as "this is going to be a horror game?" I could probably find a lot more comparisons, and I know there's even some that were EN first and they changed for JP with what we'd think is a generic name.

As for DRK fitting more it's probably because it's Dark KNIGHT and Ishgard is the only place we've seen in Eorzea to be using something considered as knights and the aesthetic as we've seen of Ishgard has all been very stereotypical medieval Europe in terms of Aesthetic.

SAM isn't in the upcoming expansion, probably like 4.0. Or 3.4 if we go with "every X.4 releases a new classic Japanese style class!"

I'm expecting Samurai to come out when the game heads east to Doma, Radz-at-Han, Ala Mhigo, etc.

If not for DRK being a tank job, I absolutely would have figured Templar would be a Tank job.

Oh believe me I understand the reason why they do the things they do at the localization team. I just have issues with the names they come up with sometimes. I don't really want to further derail the thread, so I'll let it go.

Tank don't exist only in online games.
As an example in FF XIII the paradigm role Sentinel.
And it is also possible to create a tank in FF XII

Even outside those two examples, setting a character up with the heaviest armor possible means that whenever the monster decides to attack that particular character, they won't be doing much damage, making it easier for your Designated Healer to keep the party topped up.

On topic, I have mixed feelings about SAM being a DPS job. On the one hand, it wouldn't really feel right, standing at the flanks or behind your opponent and desperately hoping you don't attract their attention. On the other hand, Woo, sword-wielding DPS job, finally!
