    Samurai Job = DPS Job

So bad news is they originally wanted SAM in 3.0 but decided to not included it because it did not suit the theme....

Good news is that SAM is planned to be a DPS Job in the future but release time is still being planned for "the right time"

    Regarding Samurai
They had an idea to make Samurai a tank. However because the Heavensward (I think they call it Souten no Ishigard in Jp) theme is dark, they felt a dark knight was more fitting for the role.
Inside of YoshiP the Samurai feels more like a DPS than a tank.
Since they released the Ninja job, they didn't want another Japanese style job
They decided to skip Samurai for now but since a lot of people request it they are still examining whether to add it in the future
So how do you feel about this?

For me I'm happy SAM will be a DPS because it was one of the interesting type of Jobs to play in FF series and I do enjoy DD Roles more than Tank and healer role.

off-topic but what the heck, Ishgard was in the name of the expansion in JP? Why not in english? I hate when the localization team goes batty and comes up with some random name for things. It ends up sucking bad...no offense to anyone that likes the name, but it just sounds so lazy. sounds like they just asked people to think of any random name they thought sounded cool and put it in a hat to be drawn.

on topic, I guess its cool they may release sam in the future.

Welcome to the world of marketing and localizations. Titles are made for their initial developed content (Japanese), then translated into different ones. If they make literal translations, titles could be really long. For marketing purposes, they translate them into shorter and "good looking" texts.

If I remember correctly, the JP expansion title translates to "Blue Skies of Ishgard" or something along those lines.

After viewing the lore panel at the fan fest I am thoroughly convinced the game wouldn't be as good as it is without their localization team.

You realize the name of the expansion in Japanese is ALSO Heavensward, right? http://jp.finalfantasyxiv.com/heavensward/
It is extremely common for Japanese companies to produce material and name it in English, then use a subtitle to back-translate it into Japanese for the Japanese audience. Source: I have a degree in Japanology :|
The official name of the expansion in Japanese is
    Heavensward: Final Fantasy XIV Online
    蒼天のイシュガルド ファイナルファンタジーXIV
You can see it in the banner at the bottom of the page http://jp.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/ . Notice how the Japanese text is significantly smaller and off to the side. It's there as a subtitle, the NAME of the game is Final Fantasy XIV Online, NOT ファイナルファンタジーXIV, and the expansion is named Heavensward, NOT 蒼天のイシュガルド. If you take issue with the Japanese using English names as official names for products, you can take that up with the entire country of Japan and its culture?

On topic, I'm not surprised. Despite wearing heavy armor, classically Samurai has been a job with heavily damaging moves like Bushido, supplemented with minor debuffs like the Weapon/Armor Break-style moves. (and Gil Toss, which I would be disappointed if FFXIV's SAM doesn't use Gil Toss (with no actual gil cost ofc) as its generic 'this is a melee character but here's your crappy 150 potency ranged attack in case you wanted it')

Well actually they said that ( for the major patch at least) that the japanese names came first, then they used both, it's how they like to do it, I think it's like all languages, we find names in other languages more appealing, I still remember the whines in WoW when they translated the names of most places from english to other languages.

But I don't think we can really say that Souten no Ishgard isn't the name of the Expansion, it's the japanese name while Heavensward is the english name, they are both the name ( Yoshi P used a lot Shinsei Eorzea instead of ARR during the Live Letters as an example )

The general reason behind renaming something with translations is to do how they make people react, and lure new people. While I would've loved the JP name myself, it is a bland name to english speakers. Think about the Resident Evil games, they were called Biohazard in JP. If that name was the english name too, would it catch people's eyes as "this is going to be a horror game?" I could probably find a lot more comparisons, and I know there's even some that were EN first and they changed for JP with what we'd think is a generic name.
