I was more alluding to the fact that classes that were used one way became the opposing role;Samurai is a DPS in XI, they did originally design it at a tank that focused on parrying but they left that on the cutting room floor and had it focus on Weapon Skills (skills that came from the weapon type the weapon you were using).
Ninja is a DPS as well but they can also be used an Avoidance Tank, using evasion and shields to avoid damage. Ninja is also one of the best jobs to use as a sub-job.
Ninja, somehow as a tank => DPS in FFXIV
DRK, dps => tank in FFXIV
SAM, supposed to be tank => (let's hope Naoki follows through) DPS in FFXIV

FFXI =/= FFXIV it will be nice to remember it...

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only person that doesn't care what they make it as long as it gets added at all.
There's no need to make every 2h class one role, sam should be dps, we already have 2 sword classes as tanks

I don't want a samurai job. What would it be ? like ninja ? get a weapon called "sasuke". No thanks. People can't master their own jobs already, why do we need more ?
For more variety and for those of us who actually take pride in our jobs? I personally feel I have mastered the few jobs I have gotten to 60. Plus I've never heard of any mmo where someone says "Man...we got to many choices" If there is one, please let me know, may interest me.![]()

Wow didn't think this thread would be brought back from the dead....
Back on topic:
The are other reason for having multiple different type of jobs that use different weapon and gameplay styles.
1) People seek to play a Job they feel suits them more.
2) RPing reasons.
3) Players seek to use a Job that fit into their requirements.
4) gameplay style may be better adjust to them than other Jobs thus they play better as that Job.
and etc.
For me a Sword User DPS Job has been what I've been looking to play since FF14 started.

Wouldn't Samurai get a weapon called Kusanagi, Muramasa, or Masamune? Since Sasuke was a ninja in actual Japanese folklore, it wouldn't make sense to make a katana with the name Sasuke;.

While I'm impressed some people actually know that, I don't think real Japanese folklore is the first thing that comes to mind when people hear "Sasuke", unfortunately.
