If they added NIN, then what's the problem of adding SAM? unless SAM comes from somewhere else than Doma...Since Doma is Japanese style, then it would make perfect sense to add SAM as well
It's silly excuse not to add SAM, just cause of the theme of Heavensward...they say Heavensward has a dark theme...well, what's so bright and happy about SAM?
DRK is tank, SAM is DPS, so why would DRK interfere with adding SAM? from this interview it almost sounds like DRK will be the only job added, since they couldn't add SAM, cause of DRK?
They should totally add SAM in expansion; actually considering Domans already being here, it should already been added, so adding it in expansion, will already be *later*

SAM as DD, is as it should be...it would have been surprising if it was any other way.
I'm a bit sad they are still only on the stage: something to consider for the future...since ppl have been requesting SAM, since they added Jobs...

Couldn't agree more. In fact this turns me away from the expansion, I was completely expecting them to go ahead and add samurai as well because... well we need someone to share a similar gear style w/ dragoon. Plus Ninja is already here so it is like, "surely samurai is next!"

If whatever you're shooting doesn't die after you pump 8, 32 caliber, slugs into it, it's probably a dragon.

As for DRK fitting more it's probably because it's Dark KNIGHT and Ishgard is the only place we've seen in Eorzea to be using something considered as knights and the aesthetic as we've seen of Ishgard has all been very stereotypical medieval Europe in terms of Aesthetic.

They are most likely waiting for a proper time to introduce a Lore reason for the arrival of SAM which can either be sometime in 3.X era, 4.0, or when ever they see fit to start going deeper into Far East lore or the update that give us access into the Far East.

As for the idea of SAM chance of being a Tank it possible since the original plan was to make SAM the Tank Job of 3.0 but then they switched it to Dark knight.

However, we must consider the game also lacks another DPS Job that can use Mail Armor since currently Dragoon is the only Job that uses Mail Armor.

Every other DPS Job currently been slapped into Leather Armor or Cloth Armor which is common considering FF series has a lot of DPS Jobs that is based around them being Leather or cloth armor users.

SAM being a DPS Job is also possible since it can also fit into being another DPS Mail Armor user but can also be a new Tank Job to add another Tank into the game.

Either way it a 50/50 for what SAM will be until farther announcements.

I'm still reeling with bemusement that they turned Dark Knight, a major DPS job from every single FF game ever, into a tank of all things. It's like giving a White Mage heavy armor and pitting them against a legendary dragon. I would have much preferred a new, unique tank rather than taking a classic job and disemboweling it.

Still, at least Samurai is sounding like the job I expected it to be. It'll be interesting to see what mechanics they'll get to make them unique compared to existing melee jobs.

Now you have to understand that every Final Fantasy is different and things may vary. They keep their dark theme with dark magic, knight armor, skill names(?) even, but what does it make it that DRK has to be >exclusively< a DPS in every FF. Also, only FFXI was an online game. If we followed your argument, there wouldn't be any tank at all in FFXIV, because there aren't tanks in other FF series, you can't have your enemies attack only 1 character of your party while we have the "trinity" in MMOs.

Tank don't exist only in online games.
As an example in FF XIII the paradigm role Sentinel.
And it is also possible to create a tank in FF XII

Even outside those two examples, setting a character up with the heaviest armor possible means that whenever the monster decides to attack that particular character, they won't be doing much damage, making it easier for your Designated Healer to keep the party topped up.

On topic, I have mixed feelings about SAM being a DPS job. On the one hand, it wouldn't really feel right, standing at the flanks or behind your opponent and desperately hoping you don't attract their attention. On the other hand, Woo, sword-wielding DPS job, finally!

That actually sounds like it would be interesting; SAM as a DPS that stands in front of the boss with the tanks? They could bring back the Third Eye ability from XI, introducing that as a mechanic for SAM as a DPS: use Third Eye to dodge Mountain Buster-type abilities, and gain a huge damage bonus when face-to-face with your target.

How about the fact that their major 'trick' is sacrificing HP for extra damage? Yeah... that just screams 'tank' right off the bat doesn't it? Cecil's Darkness skill eats 10% of their HP to double his own attack or deal heavy damage to all enemies, depending if you play the old or new version. If that isn't a DPS skill, then I'm not sure what is. EVERY incarnation of the Dark Knight has this ability so not having it would be just giving the Dark Knight name to another class.

Additionally, there has been equipment for previous Dark Knights which sacrificed your DEFENCE in exchange for OFFENSE. Even the Dissidia 012 job card had this trait. So... tell me again how Dark Knight is supposed to be a tank.
