The Aegyl was a previous Final Fantasy race from the game Final Fantasy XII: Revenant wings. Its also not the only time SE used this type of race. Its also used in the Star Ocean Series known as Featherfolk.
I too want to see the Viera and something like the draconian Gria. I'm even open to other races of Final Fantasy. Personally I'm just hoping for something with wings down the road whether implemented in 3.0 or later. But seeing as they are doing floating land masses this seems like now they have a good opportunity to fit something like that into the game story or landscape. The Gria or draconian type race would fit with Heavenswards storyline, ofcourse, but on the topic of adding more races... Aegyl could fit in here. If they added Viera, Bangaa, Nu Mou, Ivalician Moogles, ect. Would require something else to fit in the story line such as adding more cities, areas, or like Domans being refugees coming to Eorzea.
The Padjal would also be a great option but I doubt they want to revive a dieing race by making them playable characters. Wouldn't fit the story too well.
Moogle and Viera would be awesome.
Viera for female and Ronso for male if they only want one sex for each.
Sounds like a great idea that really would have suited the expansion, at least in terms of the flying aspect. But the wings would probably cause issues with clipping, whether it's with armor or pretty much everything else in the game. I'm pretty sure SE already has their race plans sorted out by this point, though, at least for Heavensward.
New races are kind of an awkward thing for FFXIV, in general. If they keep adding more, they will have to keep writing contrived "Why haven't we heard of you before now" plot rationalizations, especially if they start off in a new country and don't follow the same beginning storyline. I guess it's more options for new players, but FFXIV is so unfriendly toward having alt characters that for most current players it really just means buying a race change on Mogstation (if you really want to lose your previous look, that is).
Um, if by "Final Fantasy" you mean just the MMOs. Otherwise, I don't know what you mean. Cat ears/tails or elf ears have never really been a thing in FF. At least OP's suggestion references something that's actually been in a real game.
By "angelic," I think OP was just trying to explain they are sort of a winged humanoid race, not that they are literally some sort of supernatural/religious thing. But regardless, it's way too late for SE to be worried about religious references in their games. Half the stuff in their games are named after allusions to mythological and/or religious things. Whether or not a winged race feels "heavenly" or "supernatural" is all in how SE frames them and writes their lore. I don't think wings do it, on their own.Angelic beings refer to a religious context that people won't like or are indifferent to, which is OK. The problem I have with characters getting to have angel wings and such is that it depicts your character as heavenly, otherworldly, supernatural, and as a savior.
PS3 limitations aren't a problem.
Modeling and clipping is a huge issue. It looks substantially odd when you have something extruding from an armour piece without the correct "meld" between the extruding ligament and the armour.
In the case of Miqo'tes tails they simply just left it to clip through the body pieces, previously there was more care and effort put into avoiding and or covering up the clipping where possible. (Even armoured tails)
It's a fair bit of work to do in order to achieve this illusion and effect, it's one they decided to do away with for Miqo'te tails to relieve the time and pressure required and for the most part people simply don't care.
(You could easily do the same thing for wings, as I've done it in the past, it can just look a bit tacky at times)
The closest you're gonna get is;
