    MotD and Login History for Linkshells

    I have a 100+ member linkshell and find it really difficult to try to organize any kind of events or leave any notifications, best I'm able to do atm is notify people logged on at the moment and hope word spreads. Would be so much simpler if we could leave a simple message of the day or comment for linkshell members.

    Also, with so many members it is nigh impossible to keep track of who is no longer active and who is only semi-active. A status of when each member last logged in would help immensely when trying to remove inactive members.

    You want a Free Company. No seriously, at what point does a linkshell tar and a free company begin.

    A last long in does feel reasonable though.

    MotD would be nice for the reasons you're after. Even better would be an option to mass mail the members of a LS with no option to attach items. Wouldn't mind this functionality for FCs as well.

    As for a history of last online data, that's been asked for and shot down. I still wouldn't mind seeing it added but there's a lot of other quality of life style improvements that could be made to the various Social systems. They feel very, very halfhearted currently.

    At one point I had 8 linkshells with well over 600 members distributed among them, all of these linkshells for a single purpose, because of the lack of any form of member management we had to disband 7 of these shells and condense into a single shell just to be able to manage our member base..

    naysayers: you either dont use linkshells at all for anything important or you dont care

    we need a login history for linkshells, and we do need some form of message that can be posted and read in the linkshell to assist with events, or whatever purpose we desire, it would not have to be very large.

    Dev already commented on this awhile back, that FC's and LS's server different functions, and LS's will not have the functions of a FC.

    motd would be nice, but meh

    It would be a different story if the request was for LS Housing or LS Actions. It's not. It's a request for the most basic functionality of a social system; letting your know when your friends are online. Hell, we don't even have that. I can't think of an MMO that I've played in the past decade that DID NOT give you the option to be notified if/when your friends are online.

    Yes and what I was reffering to was a quote about basic chat functions, not Housing, perks, or other FC benefits.

    For those saying an LS is just a chat-channel, you are not playing the game to it's full extent. LS' are used for FC alliances, Hunts (not so much anymore), friends outside of FC, World Bosses, Raid groups, FC leaders, and RP. There's probably more, but I'm drawing a blank. Point is, LS' have many purposes beyond a social chat. If you make a friend or 2 during a pug, and they are close with their FC but would still like to keep in touch for other pugs, LS' are perfect (especially since you can't receive /tells in Duty, so FL is kind of moot). FC's are limiting in that you can only have 1. You can have many LS', and that's their biggest benefit for the social part of this game, which everyone is always playing. That's how mine has always worked, and we have more members in the LS than the FC.
    I don't mean to sound condescending but what you just described was a chat channel. A place to "talk", and it doesn't necessarily mean just on a social level. But I do agree, I use LSs for communicating for various activities as well, and I still think a simle MotD function would be great, but I'm not banking on it either.

    FC = Guild
    LS = Chat Channel
    Friends List = For Friends

    Honestly I do not see why we have both linkshells and Freecompanys to begin with

    The fact that Hunt LSs and Raid LSs are a very, very common thing should give you some indication as to why that is. People get tied down to their FCs for various reasons, but having LSs allows people from multiple FCs to coordinate easily.

    Yes! /signed as I /sign all the other similar threads. I don't see why SE refuses to add features to LS. I have a LS for EN speakers on my server. We use it to communicate with other EN FCs and JP players who are learning EN. It's FULL. I can only see who is inactive from my FC and weed the list regularly. We definitely need to know who is inactive at the very least. Having something like the FC log in info would be good for event planning since the LS members are scattered around the world.

    eta: FCs are merc companies and, as such, each has their own identity and set of goals. People want to be identified with certain FCs. It labels us as we game. LSs are for specific things, like hunts or silliness or, in the case I've given, for coordinating with other FCs and language learning. We have the option of being in 8 LS and 1 FC for variety's sake. I don't understand why LS are put on the back burner by SE when it comes to programming. For many of us, I'd imagine LS are one of our most important methods of communicating with others in game. :/
