I started over because 3 of my friends came to the game so the absence of level sync forced me to begin anew.

I don't understand the people who act like nothing that needed fixing has been fixed... because a /lot/ of stuff has been, if not fixed, at least set in the first stages of alteration. It seems so obvious to me I don't get how you could miss it, unless you're pretending it's all been ignored because one of /your/ pet peeves hasn't been addressed yet (and yes, you're right, a few things haven't been looked at yet).
I came back about three weeks ago. Or just a little bit before the last big patch, whenever that was, and made myself a new character. I've had much more fun this time around than I did getting my first character to fifty, even though I'm only in my mid 30's so far this time around. A lot of stuff's been changed, and imo it's been changed for the better. I'm sure a lack of content at the cap is still a problem, but they've added some and clearly will add more. If you're approaching the game like I did on my first character and have all sorts of stuff at 50 I can certainly see how might be somewhat bored, but they're not ignoring content. They're simply not ready for people who have everything at 50 yet.
Regarding the autoattack thing... I love autoattack. But I agree that it feel's a bit off as a keyboard user. It's like sometimes I have to tap an extra button to initiate it, or i'll just stand there in front of the mob looking dumb. Othertimes it seems to work out fine. I think it could certainly be tweaked and improved, but that's just /my/ pet peeve. And there's lots of other stuff that bears tweaking still as well (and, I'm sure, will be).

I started playing again about 3 weeks ago as well, and since my jobs were all only around level 20, I stuck with the same one. I've got friends from XI that have been playing this since launch and idk how they kept going before the recent patch... but it's good to come back to friends and content that's actually fun.
Best thing SE did was give us Yoshi-P the improvements since have been stellar, and if the pace of patches (as well as quality) keep on in a way similar to how they've been; then I think we're really in for a treat. The game now is how I'd expect it to be at launch (what almost a year later? 8months?) with updates popping up regularly to add more endgame content etc.
I just hope they can get more people interested in buying the game, because even the servers with 'high' population seem pretty empty (on Gysahl anyway)... which is most likely due to people just not playing anymore.
