I make it a point to tell tanks that I can give them TP with goad, because they may not have seen this available yet. Since I can't tell when TP is needed, I set off goad if requested or during a long fight. No one has complained yet.

[QUOTE=EricCartmenez;2576146]I've put strength materia on all my gear since about level 25[quote]
Not sure why you would do this.
This doesn't actually explain why. Strength is as good for a ninja as Piety or Intelligence. You might ask why I put this materia on my stuff. Well, I give the gear what it will take. I tried to meld Dexterity, but it gives zero stat boost.
If you're just giving up, then sure you're bad. But I thought this was about the OP doing everything he could and still getting overtaken by level sync'd NIN/ROG with all the best DPS cross class abilities? If they're blowing all their cooldowns at the start of the fight and the OP just can't keep up he shouldn't beat himself up too much over it It will get much more forgiving when he picks up halone and further when he gets shield oath.I'm not arguing that it isn't difficult. I'm saying that tanks who give up to teach DPS a lesson are lazy and stupid. You do it intentionally because the mob is almost dead, or you get it back because it's your job.
I am a tank main, not just blowing smoke out of my bass.
... up until he hits 50 and everybody overgears him by 50-60 or so ilvl...
flash and overpower, problem solved.
punishing someone for trying to do the tank's job and over-zealously set the pace is perfectly reasonable. if they want to pull aggro on mobs that i haven't pulled, they can pull go righ ahead.
just don't expect me to run in to save them.
Before around 30 you don't need a tank for dungeons, nothing hits hard enough to matter. If someone pulls hate, give it a shield bash, and move on to the next mob.
if FB>SB is the last of the chain, that sounds like you're yet to have a full combo let alone Shield Oath yet. Correct me if I'm wrong but up until you have that enmity multiplier (Shield Oath for PLD, Defiance for WAR) it can be pretty daunting to peel certain mobs off of crazy dps.
I would also like to point out, if you are Shield Lobbing, then you are not standing next to the mob that is running towards the ninja. Your Auto Attacks matter, at that level. Being able to continually spam skills on them also matters. If you are waiting for the mob to travel back to you, you will lose threat during its travel period since you are not hitting it with anything. You need to think more like a DPS to hold threat. (also it is very tough at low levels even with good gear)
So to recap, if you are trying to regain threat by provoking, make sure you are within range of said mob, before you provoke. You will have a very short window to hit it with a bunch of crap, you want all the DPS you can on it.
Congrats on continuing being a lazy and awful tank.
Do your job.
XI: Zeroblade, Titan Server
I agree, but I think there's a bit you're leaving out.
If a DPS pulls mobs, it is your job to tank them, not to let them tank it and die. However, if enough mobs are pulled that your mitigation and the healer's cure bombs aren't keeping you alive, you can proceed to blame the DPS for pulling too much. Once AOE becomes a thing, it's typically better to pull multiple sets of trash rather than one at a time to speed up the dungeon. This is actually showcased well in Wanderer's Palace @ 50, where moving faster is the gimmick of the dungeon. I don't think the DPS should be pulling for the tank, but I do think that if the DPS pulls you should (as Seravi said) do your job.
Also, on topic, when leveling DPS classes I would never bother to pop CDs at the start of a boss outside of Internal Release. Tank threat is gimped horribly pre-50 and they can barely hold hate with no DPS popping stuff. If they're not popping CDs then welcome to the struggle of pre-Rage of Halone/Shield Oath PLD. If you think NINs are bad, wait until you run into an ARC/BRD. Nightmares.
