I was more excited for this game in the months leading up to launch than any other game I've ever played. Spent hours daily re-watching Rocslock's videos on youtube and planning out my character.

Its too bad what happened. Easily the biggest disappointment I have every experienced in video games. I really appreciate what Yoshi-P has done to try and turn things around, but its going to take a miracle or 2 for me to trust SE again. Specially with their track record in the recent past pre FFXIV not being exactly stellar either.

Aw yea man, that was a great moment, watching that for the first time and hearing the reaction.

Patch 1.18 gave me some hope that Yoshida may actually salvage this game, but it's almost been a year since original PC release at this point. PS3 rebirth or not, many people are not coming back and it's a damn shame. I really just hope SE gets their heads out of their asses after this title.

What was a total shock announcement and the best surprise of the year turned out to be my biggest disappointment in gaming ever. I do believe the game will turn out okay in the end but i'll never forget how let down i was.

This about sums it up for me. As a lifelong Final Fantasy fanboy, this game's release was very difficult to stomach, but the game has vastly improved since then.

Having started playing XI on PS2 and played it on console for 5+ years I fully support SE's hard work porting it to a console. However... I do not want SE to pass over new features / awesome stuff that would work on PC JUST because of the PS3. I think if it comes to the point of "PS3 couldn't run it" for a new feature or area or graphic for XIV (which it probably already has) then PS3 just shouldn't get it. I don't want us to have copy and paste everywhere, crappy effects, yet a beautiful world just because it would cap out the PS3's RAM =/.

Kind of a rant, and maybe off topic, but just my two cents on the matter.

EDIT: I'm under the impression Rage of Halone and the other few skills that got awesome animations is just the start of a wave of graphic improvements because I understand we already have what I said we don't want us to lol. I don't want us to keep the copy/paste and crappy effects.
FF XI was built for PS2 not PC it was not a port. It released on PS2 in May 2002 in Japan before the PC release in November. Yes they did it the other way around for FF XIV but it was always intended for a console release it is a FF game after all, so if PC players can't except that they should find another game to play. Whatever FF XIV on PC gets PS3 will get to. You will be getting no special treatment, you are lucky to be even getting a FF game as it's a console franchise. The copy paste environments have nothing to do with PS3 it was just poor development. This engine built FF XIII and Versus XIII it was made to create console games.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I was excited all the way up to the release of the game basically. I played in alpha and beta, and I was amazed by all the things they'd created. The character and enemy models are so much better than any other MMO it's ridiculous. The animations are better than just about any game at all, MMO or not. The world seemed huge because the areas were huge, and I spent most of my time exploring to see new landmarks and enemy types.

During this time, I expected that two things would happen. The first was that the game would actually be stable and smooth by the time it came to launch because they'd actually listen to those of us giving feedback on the forums and through bug reports. The second was that the release version would have more content, because they didn't want us exploring or experiencing too much before the game actually came out.

Unfortunately both of these things turned out to not be the case. Instead of each area just being massive, it turned out there were only as many as we'd seen, and no extra quests or anything providing more story that we hadn't seen. They didn't listen to the people screaming to fix things like the market wards or physical level systems before trying to release the game. They didn't tune up the response times for every action making the game actually playable without frustration at the sluggishness. They didn't have any quests waiting for us anywhere we hadn't seen except some more story at higher ranks.

Taking a break from the game from March to July gave me some time to come back into it fresh though. It still may not have all the quests, story, and areas that it should, and the systems still need a lot of work. But I've been able to look at it again from the angle of how beautiful the game world is and how many things they've spelled out for future patches to fix things. I'm also willing to now think of it as a free head start beta test type deal instead of a premature, failed launch. Although the game certainly would have attracted more people total had they just waited and made closed developments - a lot more could be accomplished in a year of that than we've had in the year of development during live service.

The best part of that trailer was at the end when the "online" popped up...man I think that was the most hyped I have ever been for a game. Who can tell me how many times that dude said "what" lol.
