Animations and Expectations of Current/Future Jobs

In 2.4 we saw the introduction of one of the most awaited classes/jobs in FFXIV, Rogue/Ninja. The animations, look, and feel of the job are top notch. (Granted people will still complain about it.) Looking forward to 3.0 a question comes to my mind. How will the new old/jobs look in terms of skill animations, running, and jumping?

    -Running-
Ninja has unique running style. What does this imply? If they introduce a job like Samurai in 3.0 and they are running, will they be expected to enter the “classic samurai” running stance? Will Dark Knight run across the field dragging their heavy sword?

    Examples:
    1. Katana to the side running hunched down (similar to ninja)

    2. Great Sword somewhat dragging on the ground as they are running across the field.

    3. Paladin would be running with their shield in front of them and their sword in a position to stab.

    -Jumping-
Not much to say here it would really depend on the job because I can’t expect each job to have a special jump.

    -Skill Animations-
This is where a bigger issue comes to mind. Rogue and Ninja have over the top animations. Compare it to the basic animations of say Dragoon, Paladin, and Warrior. It feels like something is lacking in them and it isn’t because they aren’t flashy. They just don’t seem to bring out the personality of the job.

    -Conclusion-
TLDR: With detail put into Ninja we can only expect SE to continue doing the same quality of work for future jobs. However, will they do it or will they be lazy? We must consider this a new standard they have set for themselves and urge them to continue doing this for future jobs. On a side note we should also urge them to rework/improve the “personality” and animations of jobs released pre 2.4

If whatever you're shooting doesn't die after you pump 8, 32 caliber, slugs into it, it's probably a dragon.

I sincerely doubt they're going to rework any of the existing animations. They put extra effort into Ninja to draw people to it and invent interest among players to either re-subscribe or subscribe for the first time.

Rather than overcomplicate the job animations, I'd rather they give us some character-specific animation options. They've clearly put a lot of polish into the emotes, but they have a little too much personality, sometimes? For instance, Miqo'te are too brash and sexy; I'd like a 'shy' or 'serious' emote set to better suit my character's personality, whereas Elezen are so serious, and could use some silly or sexy bodylanguage.

/changepose is a great start, and I certainly wouldn't expect something like this to be high priority, but it would definitely be a fun thing to have, if there happened to be room in the development schedule for it.

I know it would probably be a lot of work, but something like a 'Personality pack' is one of the very few things that might actually tempt me to visit a cash shop... >_>

No, PLEASE. Stop asking to pay more for such things.

We pay a sub, and until now it has been enough to implement these little QoL features (/cpose, for example). If you keep saying things like this, eventually we might as well ask to pay extra cash for each and every patch.

    Stop encouraging bad business practices.

I would love for them to revisit older classes; the worse thing you can do is leave them behind and outdated aesthetically. The fact they make it so rogue and ninja (within the same job/class advancement) has different animation is already going out of their way to design more for a class. Not that is a bad thing, but again we don't want them forgetting the classes/jobs that already exist because that can easily spiral out of control.

The way to word the question is "How do you make it look like each class has their own identity, just by looking at how they run?" I don't necessarily make them have drastically different running animation, but I really wouldn't mind having different ones for the classes that use two hands for a weapon (warriors, bards and dragoons) or having some difference between monk and paladin (and by extension...all the DoH/DoL classes)

well i think a conjurer or thaumaturge dont need extra running animations... ninja for me is somethin special due to ninjas combat style lives from the aesthetical factor very much. as for white mage it doesnt..

additionally each mage class has their own casting animation.. conjurers have different stances than thaumaturges, arcanists etc.. so i wouldnt say its a ninja only thing.

As for the older classes.. they receive new skills in "Heavensward", too. due to level cap increase. so i think that also the old job classes receive a small "revamp" in the very first expansion.
each classes already have their own battle stances. though they dont have their own running animation. but i also think that it isnt needed as for classes like PLD, brd etc... rogue also does not has its own running animations (although its a new class)... because they dont move as agile as ninjas do..

ninjas are some kind of special thing

    •9 Jobs.
    •5 Races.
    •2 Genders.

That's up to 10 Animation Sets, over 9 Jobs. That's a total of...90 unique animation sets.

I cannot even begin to stress how much work that would require.

    (/laugh)

Even for the two new jobs that have been announced for 3.0 (possibly three?)

    That would be so far, under the assumption of 5-races, 2-genders a total of;

    •10 unique animation sets

When it really boils down to it, they all have their unique animation. Ninja is the special exception in this that upon advancement from rogue they have a running/jumping unique to their job advancement; the other classes don't even get any aesthetic changes and it's just a name tacked onto them.

-That's the same for lancers and pugilists having their own attack animations. This should be a given and I don't feel that we need to expand upon this. Though the aesthetic value behind some of them (specifically bard imo, as well as casting particles for BLM) could use some work.

-But I can also argue something like that for other classes, especially gladiator and paladin (former being a sword and board pit fighter, former being in the ranks of the sultana's personal guard) The way I see it right now, our classes (gladiator, archer, conjurer, etc) are just learning tricks behind the job advancements (paladin, bard, white mage, etc) rather than being the job advancement. And this is especially the case I see for Bard and Paladin behind their lack luster ability addition.

A ninja is different from a rogue, so I expect them to have some sort of aesthetic advancement to make them so. But before 2.4, we were in a position that I didn't mind it if ninja still retained rogue's running animation because no other class has that sort of treatment to match their job advancement (and that they probably didn't want to bother with it too, resources and scheduled plans yada yada).
