With all the Northeast US packet loss issues in the past and also being on a server equal in population. I've never been "stuck in the void of zone loading screens". In game lag was an issue in the past for me, but it had nothing to do with loading zones. Most ppl with loading screen delay is typically their hardware.

exactly... When I was on my PS3 zoning into an A rank or an S rank zone it would take forever... on PS4 now and load times are almost instant (as fast as possible). This is not an issue caused by free login weekend.

OP, do you have a SSD? Loading time is more of a hardware issue, having FFXIV on a SSD plays a big role in loading time improvement (even if the zone is crowded) while other hardware helps a bit.

Both my fiancée and I have pretty good systems, however hers is more current than mine and she still gets the same problems, which are amplified during peak hours or free login weekends. Although I'm sure there's merit in what you're saying, I really don't think this a client-side hardware issue.

Hmmm... No SSD, but I was thinking of getting one when I upgrade my system next. If it'll make the game run better perhaps it's worth the investment, thanks for the tip!

Seriously, it's great to provide incentive to bring more subs to the game, but the fact is that while these free login weekends probably do bring some new subs, they also cause unbridled pain and suffering to the players who are already paying for the game.

It'd be cool if they could do something for the current subscribers on these weekends as a sort of "sorry for the lagfest", just sayin'!

You're on Balmung, where you can't even create new characters most of the time. I find it difficult to believe there were that many more people than normal on your server. On the lower pop servers I can see it though.

But free login is for old characters, not new characters, I wouldn't be surprised if these servers even had a login queue this weekend.

Good point. Previous mmo experience has me automatically assuming new player bonuses for free weekends.

Didn't lag a bit on my 3 mbps connection, maybe you should switch to a slower ISP :P

I have a few FC buddies with good connections who say WTFast works great for them, you should try it out if you're experiencing issues like this.

Hmmm... I'm don't think it's the ISP either. I'm running on hybrid fiber and during regular gaming hours (even some peak hours) my connection is pretty good, nowhere near as bad as during free login weekends.
Crazy that you get no lag with a 3mbps connection though X_X Is Cactuar very low pop perhaps?

I didn't even know there was anything going on. No lag here and I played pretty much all weekend.

I had a que of 16 people I had to wait ... 20 seconds before I could log in. No lag at all.
