Congratulations, you managed to find a highlight reel that shows about a minute forty-five worth of decent animations. Now go watch the PLD in the Garuda video from the OP just casually "I can't be bothered to give a ****" his way through a Savage Blade. >_>
And as described by someone who responded to you: It was the particular racial/gender animation. Just like in XI how elvaan's were always 'nonchalant' about their battle stances. Not quite hard to understand unless of course you never played 1.0 or XI since it can be weird after seeing the universal design they went with ARR for simplification and ease of development.
I played plenty of 1.0. Like I said earlier in the thread, some of the animations in 1.0 were awesome. I don't think either of the primal videos linked here showed any of the impressive ones, though, so it makes me wonder what Haoma's talking about when he makes it sound like the linked videos showed good animations. >_>And as described by someone who responded to you: It was the particular racial/gender animation. We're talking about the weight of the weapon skills. What does that have to do with a PC's situational awareness? As for that Elezen's Savage Blade? I don't expect anyone but a strength trainer (or M Highlander, M Roegadyn) would be able to push all of their body and armor weight forward on top of the weight of a metal sword and shield (in either hand) and swing them around in an arc like they were made out of plastic. Which, consequently, is what all of the weapons in ARR seem to be made of. It really just comes down to the animations not matching the character's stature, speed of animation, sound effects, and screen effects not playing nice together.
I'm speaking from memory. Is that a crime?I played plenty of 1.0. Like I said earlier in the thread, some of the animations in 1.0 were awesome. That's the thing, though. The Elezen isn't making me think that he's covered in armor. He's making me think that he just doesn't care. Nothing weighted about it. Same with the other animations in the primal videos here. As for speaking from memory, I guess I'm just wondering what sparked your nostalgia. We're talking about the weight of the weapon skills.
