    Anti Aliasing (SGSSAA or Supersampling)

    Hi,

I know you can't do multisampling in this game due to deferred rendering, but what about SGSSAA or Supersampling?

I've been reading around and I know some people have gotten SGSSAA to work with nvidia inspector and 0x004012C5 compatibility, but it's not working for me (outdated?).

Does this still work, or, is there a way to get supersampling working instead? I've tried downsampling, but it screws with the UI and graphics a little too much. I also don't like having to play full screen and not borderless windowed.

the only thing trying to force SGSSAA does is quadruple the amount of video memory used without any visual benefits, and actually getting less effects rendered properly.

I certainly didn't seem to notice any visual benefit myself, but many others have posted screenshots and such stating it was working, on top of multiple different compatibility bits for different modes (4x, 8x, etc) functioning with different results.

I use SweetFX's SMAA. It works well enough.

SMAA is still post processing, that stuff is bleh.

It is preferable over FXAA. Admittedly, I didn't think in-driver AA could be enforced on FFXIV due to its deferred rendering engine coded in DX9 (DX10 eliminated the problems with AA in deferred light/shadow rendering). Do you need to use Nvidia Inspector?

Like I said in the OP, people have stated MSAA doesn't work due to that, but supposedly people were getting SGSSAA to work. If you google it, you'll find many different people stating it works with different compatibility bits and screenshots.

    Yes, that is using inspector.

Many people were willing to trade broken HDR and shadows for a non perceivable improvement to graphics.

I sure hope that their DX11 client comes with some sort of real anti-aliasing. This game suffers horribly from it, and FXAA is a terrible solution.

So, for the record, the SGSSAA works just fine with the proper settings, but the game has to be set to full screen or else it doesn't work.

It looks great but the frame rate tanks pretty hard, I lose like 15 FPS on my 970. Makes it hard to consider it worth it when combined with the fact I have to play full screen.

    Still, looks nice.
