Xbox 360 Controller not working post 1.18a

My GF and I have been playing together since release date more or less and have never had this issue until she logged in today. We are both using the same GameStop brand XBox 360 wired controllers. We played last night after the patch without any issue, but today she logged in and the game is not reading her controller at all. She will get as far as character selection and then the game stops reading controller input. Other applications read the controller just fine, and the config tool's gamepad test reads it just fine, but once she is logged in she loses it. All the while, the chat program we use to talk still reads input from her controller, as she has it set to use a button on her controller to push-to-talk. It's starting to look like it is a client side issue.

We have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, restarting the game, restarting the PC, and checking "enable gamepad while application is in the background"... Would reinstall drivers but it is a plug and play device and other applications are picking it up just fine...

Just not really sure what to do here. ><

Sounds like a broken configuration. You could try moving the ffxiv folder in documents/my games/ to desktop and doing the config again.

Yeah we tried that but it didn't work. I am pleased to let you know that the problem was the same one from a similar thread on here somewhere, where the controller was switching to player two after the game booted up. I'm not sure what caused this to start happening, but we downloaded the latest drivers from microsoft's website and it seems that the issue was resolved. I'm installing the same drivers to my system so I don't run into the same problem.

Okay, we tried to play again and that was a lie. We still have the same issue where she gets as far as character selection and then the controller switches to player 2 and becomes unusable.

Did you try to press the xbox-button, unplug, plug back in and restart ffxiv? This sounds like the assigned player number got glitched.

It works until she gets logged in and then it switches to player 2 or 3. We have tried everything we can think of short of uninstalling and reinstalling FFXIV. Removing and reinstalling drivers doesn't work. Deleting the FFXIV mygames folder doesn't work. There also seems to be no documentation on this kind of problem on the internet at all... If anyone has any suggestions please help!!

I would try unplugging the controller, then completely removing the drivers for it. Might we worth it to see if one of the cleaner programs can do a sweep to remove all references to the drivers. Try plugging the controller in and letting it do its thing. Then run windows update to get the latest drivers. Those drivers have given me no issues with the 360 controller. Run the config program to set up the game pad, and see if that helps.

Alternately, you can try plugging the controller into a USB port that has -never- been used for the controller (this is less likely to work however, since it will still use whichever drivers are already on the computer and if there is a problem with them, this won't fix it.)

If that does work, post your specs for the computer using the FFXIV Config tool just in case there is something there, and we'll see if there is anything we can do to help.
