New SCH, new to the game, a little overwhelmed...

So, although couple of friends of mine in FC already explained to me about the relic weapon, I managed to forget that there was actually ANOTHER grind from Atma to Animus.

I just finished my Atma tome on my SCH and I am sitting at Ilvl 97.

I feel overwhelmed because I really want to finish the relic quest, however I need to relocate all my soldiery for the quest, which prevents me from getting any of the weathered gear for upgrades.

Which should I be focusing on first? finishing my daystar gear along with the new ironworks healing gear, or just slowly upgrade my Ironworks gear while putting all my soldiery on the Animus weapon quest?

Its really hard to catch up for new players... its actually kind of discouraging how much grind I have to do to catch up... I mean at this rate, I need solid 2-3 months to catch up to everyone...

You're already at i97, which is sufficient to access and successfully complete virtually all content in the game. Don't get discouraged because you aren't i120 just yet (besides, you can be i110 in pretty much no time since Soldiery is uncapped).

Most of the things you do will award you both Soldiery and Poetics tomes, so purchase as you need to. If the relic is a big focus for you right now, run Syrcus Tower to get i100 pieces to tide you over while you spend Soldiery on your Animus books and gradually purchase Poetics. It will all take far less time than you think.

It's worth mentioning that you CAN spend a large amount of Soldiery to get the Book of Diamonds, but the secondary stats are awful. I'd suggest continuing with the relic as a priority.

Not having relic as a newer player means that you're completely at SE's mercy when they decide to give you crap secondaries on your tome weapon. Relic will continue to be relevant for at least a couple more patches, probably culminating with i135 to bring it on par with the Dreadwyrm book prior to 3.0.

IF YOU CAN. Do a few Syrcus towers to get atleast 1 unidentified allagan stone and a Sand of time. Farm up 1300 soldiery and get the book of spades (or was it diamonds? forgot which was SCH). Good i110 weapon for a while and should last u through atleast second coil of bahamut if you plan on doing it. Its a good substitute weapon until you can get a relic if you are going to continue. For scholar, the cost of a novus shouldnt be "too" bad.

Books of Diamonds is easy to get, yes, but the secondary stats are pretty poor unfortunately.

I just hit 50 SCH last week, and I have decided to forfeit the option for a relic weapon.
I first used an i70 crafted book and melded a couple materia on it. This was sufficient to complete all primals, open EX primals, and farm out the Cognitome.
From here, I am gearing up enough for Ramuh book (i100, and decent secondary stats), but most likely Shiva (i110, lesser than optimal secondary stats).
Either way, a full crit and det build on a Nexus IS superior, but not required. You can gain a lot of secondaries on your gear, which is also at the mercy of SE come future patches.

I would prioritize my higher level gear first (MND > any secondary), then worry about a relic weapon if I didn't have access to a decent level weapon already.

I would chose to alternate between books and gear. You get some tomes while doing the books, plus some of the FATES in the books will discourage you, and a dungeon run or two might be needed. Since you can only have one book at a time, just bounce back and forth between gear/book. Before long you will have all gear and that shiny Animus.

What I'm doing with my Alt is I got the book of diamonds, the gear I wanted from soldiery and now will start to take Atma to animus as I cap Poetics/run dungeons. I wont farm over and over, I'll just let it come over normal gameplay.
