    All sarcasm aside from this post... I agree that reward from a lot of the quests as far as SP gain goes is not worth the time spent.

    NO wrong totally wrong , the main goal of mmo's is to have fun online adventuring with friends , Max level is the farthest from main goals , its called end game for a reason , cause its the end of the game , yuck , no ty , give me adventure and a good journey.

    The adventure and journey is the PATH to your goal. What you said is not the goal of any MMO out there and i played a lot of them. End game does not necessary mean the game is over as you fail to notice that MMORPG never end. in WOW your 1st goal is to get to max level but that is FAAAAR from being the end. Then you have your gear to get, you have Raids, you have PVP etc.

    Every game needs a goal to justify you putting any effort into it. the Path to that goal is what you mentioned and yes that path needs to be fun and enjoyable. It needs to take you places, makes you meet people and make friends. That's why i outlined how that path should be so that it is more enjoyable and that it gives you more options about how to do it.

    Indeed... Looking up what most quests give, either being SP or gil or the item it rewards.... it is not worth one bit. Especially when these quests are so damn boring. I would prefere much better doing the usual kill X amount of that monster instead of running around town for 20min talking to NPCs or travelling to the other end of the world map just to talk to one dude and then run all the way back to the city for pretty much nothing in return.

    Quests should help you level, the more you do the faster you progress and level up. You shouldn't feel like damn with the time i wasted on that quest i could have grinded like 2 levels already.

    There should be no grinding at all, questing or otherwise. In my ideal MMORPG, there would be no levels at all, and it would be about the journey, not the destination. One of my biggest peeves about the genre (and some games that are copying it) is that they seem to feel that a fake sense of accomplishment is more important than actually having fun along the way. Korean-style MMOs are the worst offender of this, but almost all do it to an extent.

    I'd much rather the progression path consist of actual achievements, rather than some arbitrary system like we have now.

    Could you elaborate on your idea? You need to keep in mind that MMO and MMORPG are not synonyms.

    MMO stands for Massive Multiplayer Online and that is pretty much all MMO games regardless of the genre... being either an FPS or racing game or RPG.

    FFXIV is an MMORPG so before being an MMO game it is an RPG at the core. This is the 14th entry in the main Final Fantasy series which is an RPG series so you need to understand that this game needs to have RPG elements. That means, levels(doesn't have to be called levels or work the same way but you need a character progression system), you need equipment, Story, quests, monsters to fight, you need a way to take your character from point a to point b.

    Taking your character from nothing to being at last level, rocking that rare armor and dealing devastating blows does provide a sense of accomplishment. It's the goal of most MMORPGs out there and it worked out pretty well for them.

    Of course the journey to get there is just as important and thats what this post is all about, i wanted to give an exemple of what a good progression path/journey would be like.


    As for your idea, it seems pretty vague.... it sounds like your saying we should just hang around, travel and i dunno.. maybe craft the whole time? I don't get your vision sorry....
