Asking for a Mage Tank if DRK Fail to resolve the Lack of Tank.

I know your point by trying to bringing up DRK as Tank ... but i dont think another heavy armor melee will solve the lack of tanks ...
If SE don't want to use the best solution wich is: Tanking abilities on all melee with A Very Easy Aggro mechanic just like Ragnarok online 1 & 2 , where the lack of tanks doesnt exist.

Then i suggest the second option --> Blood Mage Tank a la Forsaken World Online.
Blood mage was a huge success there, Forsaken have way more tanks player than ff14 , because actually the game propose something we call "diversity" on their tanks choice.
If you dont want to add a Blood Mage, it could be Red mage or Blue Mage , with an original & different gameplay.
So If DRK fail at attracting more people to play Tank, i'd like to start in the futur an official survey to propose a Mage Tank, wich in my opinion would be more successful than DRK.
    My Two cents !

NO NO NO NO NO!!!! What the hell are you talking about??? Isn't tanking in this game easy enough? You pretty much have to stand there, spam aoes when pulling multiple mobs or your combo rotation if you're tanking a single boss and move out the reds. It can't get easier than it. Or maybe it can, never played Ragnarok, but if it's easier to tank there than it is in FFXIV then I'm afraid I'm glad I avoided such a "challenged" game. Plus, the usual excuse for people not tanking is not that it's hard, but it's just too easy and boring. Just check the forums.

I can't explain why people dislike tanking. I love it, but it's a bit issues in every game I ever played. People simply don't like tanking. You will give them 5 tanks and only one dps class, they will still pick the dps and complain there is no tanks.

You could add 12 of the most amazing Tank Jobs to the game, but you would never get people who don't want to tank to play them.

People do not like the ROLE. Job has little to do with it, its the Tank ROLE people do not want to play. Tanks will never be as popular as DPS jobs. Fact. No amount of extra jobs or fancy names will make people enjoy a ROLE they do not like.

RDM would be the happy compromise here. They could have the enspells that could increase enmity small scale healing spell for enmity, flash cross skill, phalanx etc...

Well, in all honesty, if there is a lack of tanks, people should really consider playing a tank. I main a bard, but that hasn't stopped me from gearing up a White Mage or Warrior to the point I can do Final Coil in it. Tanking isn't terribly difficult. And there are ways to have fun with it. I'll have to convince a friend of mine to do Titan with me while he pulls Titan around the arena the whole time... That'll be fun.

Tank is easy enough to play in this game, speaking as a tank myself.

DRK will probably be an HP Drain tank of some sort. Though really, I am sad to see that it's going to be a tank and not an HP-sacrificing/draining DPS.

The main problem you run into here is a disconnect between the "job system" of the mostly single-player Final Fantasy series and the "holy trinity" role system the developers have not only placed but enforced in XIV.

They can get around the problem by adding completely new jobs (as most "job system" FF games do), but there's a long list of favorites both the developers and the players want to see added first. This becomes an issue when the majority of the games in the series are single player games where hard tank roles are either unnecessary or simply undesired - the strategy in those games comes from managing actions per given turn rather than managing hate for the most part. So you have a long list of jobs people want to see, none of which have ever been tanks because they come from games that didn't have tanks at all. Literally the only tank job from classic FF games is Paladin, because of Cover and low HP auto-Cover.

They can of course turn non-tank classic jobs into tanks, as they have done with Warrior and Dark Knight, but there tends to be a fine line here with what players will accept. Though Warrior mostly went off without a hitch, some people (though still a minority I think) have complained about Dark Knight being a tank. If they go too far with certain jobs that people love for a specific thing just to make them fit the tank role, you'll have a lot of unhappy players. Red Mage in particular is very touchy given its already-poor treatment in XI.

What is this Blood Mage OP mention since i don't remember forsaken world has a class called that. And not to mention 'Forsaken have way more tanks player than ff14' where did you get the numbers from.

And lets not forget forsaken world is hosted by perfect world online which is known for the Pay to win itemmall so even if it is posisble for a 'mage tank' we pretty much know how they do it *3*

Edit: i check and that *class* isnt called a Blood Mage but a Blood Vamp totaly different. Vamp aka vampire is the race and blood is the skill tree you can specialize in.

The Blood tree is commonly referred to as the healing tree for vampires. However, while this is mostly correct, it is not exactly right.
It would be more correct to say that Blood is the HP tree of vampires - because they specialize in everything that has to do with HP, be it heals, HP regen/leech or HP debuffs. It's also heavily dependent on Dark elemental skills.
Out of all 3 trees of vampires - an already versatile class - one could say that Blood is the most versatile. While Inferno and Dark heavily concentrate on damage and debuffs, mostly disregarding the healing skills vampires have, Blood tries to balance between all different skills. However, the main focus is always healing and survivability.
Despite this, though, Blood's dps does not suffer as much as one could imagine. It certainly is far from Dark, and much more Inferno in terms of damage output, however the ability of vampires to have burst damage outbreaks with Vampire Form and Charmed Strike, and Blood's outstanding ability to self heal while still attacking, makes it so that Blood vampires can deal sufficient damage.
This mix of offensive ,defensive and support talents, together with the base abilities of vampires, makes it so that Blood vampires can effectively alternate between healer and damage dealer (and tank as well, under circumstances) when in a party, as well as being able to fill in almost any needed role whenever the need arises. The expression "Jack of all trades, master of none" immediately springs to mind - however, as one can adjust their skill rotation to suit specific needs, it's not like Blood vampires cannot be perfectly capable main-healers/tanks/DDs if they need to - they just can't fulfill many main roles at once, like for example tanking a tough boss and healing.

As someone has stated earlier, you could add a glut of awesome tank jobs, with intriguing skills, but there would still be a lack of players willing to play them. It's simply because people don't like playing tank (and, to a lesser extent, healer). They don't want that sort of responsibility and stress. They don't want to deal with being berated and blamed when something goes wrong (even if you just happen to have a bad derp moment). And heaven forbid if you should be new at it and do not perform perfectly on the first try. And, for some, the role is just boring to them. For many players that won't play tanks, it's simply not worth it.
