keyboard:I would be happy if clicking "commence" just put your character back in the same state it was in when you entered the queue and overrides things like open transaction windows, market boards, cuscenes. etc. I've missed a queue before because I was frantically trying to exit out of my retainer, enter my character window, and change my job back. If I'm only on a controller, this is a real pain, one miss-click can really cost you precious seconds.
press Esc until all windows are closed
have gear sets on a hotbar
controller:
press circle button until all windows are closed
have gear sets on a crossbar

How? Hit B (or circle if you're on a psx style controller) till all the windows are gone. Done. I've done this too.I would be happy if clicking "commence" just put your character back in the same state it was in when you entered the queue and overrides things like open transaction windows, market boards, cuscenes. etc. I've missed a queue before because I was frantically trying to exit out of my retainer, enter my character window, and change my job back. Lots of people craft to fill time. This wouldn't work for them.

This, so much this.
until you accidentally hit that B/O one too many times because you are trying to catch that timer and the game decides that that extra key stroke was you saying withdraw from que. Have fun waiting another 2 hours.
My Idea for this would be to have the Que tell you with an alert when you are, let's say, tenth in line for your classes que. Having an alert that you are getting to the end of your que line would solve the afk/mid craft/mid battle scramble to hit the button in time much more effectively.

unfortunately that's not QUITE the way the queue works. There's a lot of if-then that goes into the queue from what i've observed, so giving accurate numbers is difficult. That's why the estimated queue time goes bonkers if you add another person to your group. My Idea for this would be to have the Que tell you with an alert when you are, let's say, tenth in line for your classes que. For instance, if you're a BLM and there are no other BLMs, SMNs, or BRDs in the queue but there are 20 ninja, you stand a better chance of being matched no matter when you queue than 19 of those ninja.

I was thinking it might be easier to code to be able to register a gear set (that matches the queued class) that it could force-switch into when commence is clicked or when the commence window pops up:

I completely agree. I missed a queue yesterday for being in a cs. DPS wait times is the real problem here, it takes so long that it makes no sense not to find something else to do to pass the time. It's not like DPS are intentionally trying to troll the df. Many of us just aren't gonna stand in Mor Dhona for hours on end doing nothing just because we're queued for something. I'm willing to assume that most of the people arguing in favor of these lockout penalties aren't actually doing much queuing as dps outside of premades.
^ I love this idea. IMO that would have helped the situation a lot more than penalizing people for queuing as dps then actually playing the game while they wait for an instance to pop.I would be happy if clicking "commence" just put your character back in the same state it was in when you entered the queue and overrides things like open transaction windows, market boards, cuscenes. etc. I've missed a queue before because I was frantically trying to exit out of my retainer, enter my character window, and change my job back. This would actually help a lot too, at least being able to estimate how much wait time I have before starting something else.

I'd rather they just speed up the queues.
Are regular duty find & roulettes on different queues? Merge them into one. If players are queued for a duty, players in roulette should fill in the blanks.

Naw, they're already merged. If you are a tank in roulette, you'll get sorted into whatever group needs a tank, regardless of how they got put in the queue (via DF or roulette.)
