Upgrading Equipment

Hi all,

i started FFXIV a while ago and have run into the problem that i do not know how to upgrade my starting equipment in any way (my main job is lvl 16 currently). The Items in the market are way to expansive for me and to craft a lvl 16 weapon for example i need to be lvl 20+ in three different crafting disciplines.

Does anyone have tips for me how to get upgrades for my equipment or should i just stay with my starting gear?

hm...you shouldn't have trouble finding brass or bronze spears I would think. Have you tried doing the main story quests for gil? If you can afford the bronze spear from the NPC virtually any goldsmith can do the upgrade to brass spear for you.

Have you tried the item search?

sell shards and crystals, they busted a bunch of rmt so prices should have gone up and youll get plenty more later for crafting.

Thanks, i got Harpoon from the market that is fine for the moment. The real problem is the armor and the other equipment =/. I guess i will try selling my shards.

Ah...yes. Low-rank gear might be tough to find. If I was on Lindblum I could probably make it for you. If you find an LS that's decently-sized you can probably find someone that would make whatever you want. You might try shouting to commission gear from a crafter or buying the mats yourself and then just getting a crafter for the synth.

I, too, recently just started playing the game. You should be able to do level 20 leves now, so you should exclusively stick to that for gil.

Also, sell any "trash" you find. You can generally sell it for double the vendor price, maybe even more.

This is a very good site that shows Vendor Prices and which category they are under so you can easily check prices.

I've made about 400k just selling vendor junk and shards.

Another tip to save some gil is - always have someone repair gear for you.
NPCs sell Grade 1-5 matter which is used to repair gear at their respective levels.

NPC Grade sell prices:
Grade 1 = 100
Grade 2 = 600
Grade 3 = 1500
Grade 4 = 2800
Grade 5 = 4500
ie. Let's say you want a level 6 Spear repaired. It requires Grade 1 Matter.. so put it up for repairs for 200gil.

Find out which Grade is needed to repair which gear, and basically double up on it, seek repair, and stand next to the Ul'dah repair NPC, and it will generally be repaired within 5 minutes.

It's ALWAYS cheaper to get repairs from players, even with being generous and doubling up on Grade Matter.

The only thing that helps are quests.

Low rank gear is really a pain now.
I would also try and shout for low rank stuff. Lot of us have tons of low rank gear which we don't need. I would try that.

You might also try finding a linkshell if you haven't already.

I stopped playing for a few months and when I came back I was amazed at the prices for gear in the late teens and early 20s. Stuff that I can easily make on my weaver sells for ridiculous amounts... I've actually started selling most things for about half the YG or FFXIVpro list price.

I'm also more than happy to make things on request for people... And I bet I'm not the only one who would be willing to help out a newer player.
